Ningyou is a pullip (and figure although they have only started to show up in the fourth issue) magazine made by the people behind the Dolly Market forum. The magazine itself in general is really nice to look at with gorgeous photos submitted from pullip collectors around the world but a quick read. Emphasis is on photos because let’s face it Pullips are by their very nature a visual thing.

The fourth issue happened to arrive in the mail last week. Clementine (my beloved pullip Papin) was quite pleasantly surprised that her and several of the other members of the rainbow mafia (ie. my many, many Papins) were on the cover. The theme for this issue was Color Wonderful and what could possibly be more colorful than the rainbow mafia?

I have some additional photos in the magazine as well, alongside reviews of new releases that I wrote. I was approached a while ago to do reviews for new releases for the magazine, writing something so subjective kind of makes me uncomfortable as I just lack the eloquence to poetically dissect a doll (or a figure hence why I don’t really write reviews here) but I’m happy to help with whatever I can. I’ve had my photos/reviews in three issues now, I was interviewed in the 2nd issue and now I have officially made the cover 😀 Somewhat ironically the month Papin is featured on the cover is the same month that she happened to sell out in.

Commissioned Art Get

It’s no secret that Clementine is my favorite of all my dolls, there is just something about her that makes me smile every time I see her. Being the favorite she gets certain special treatments, I have gotten freebie sketches of her done before by various artists I even had one artist contact me out of the blue and sent me a drawing of Clementine because they liked her so much. A few months back Rubyconcream did a limited number of free slots for her art commissions, I decided to take advantage of the offer and got a sketch of my beloved Clementine.

I absolutely loved it and it turned out one of my friends Skada actually got one of the other free slots and got her Papin drawn as well. Her Papin Juniper just happens to be one of my favorite Papins ever . We got to talking and we kind of came to the conclusion that a picture of the two of them would be even more mind-numbingly adorable so I commissioned Rubyconcream to do two illustrations of the two of them together.

The first illustration with the girls in their “default” outfits, I really wanted something cutesy of the two of them together and this worked out perfectly.

Skada and I are both avid comic readers so I wanted a picture with a superhero-esque vibe, the dress Juniper is wearing is based off of one of her actual dresses but of course my heart belongs to the Joker so I requested that Clementine be drawn with a Joker shirt haha! .

I couldn’t be happier with how the commissions went Rubyconcream was very patient with me while I figured out exactly what I wanted and was out of contact part of the time. I will definitely commission her for more art in the future.

Arrival- Sakura Dollfie Dream

My long awaited Sakura Dollfie Dream arrived today, I preordered her way back on like May 6th which seems like a lifetime ago.

Sakura is my twelfth dollfie dream, she joins fellow Fate/Stay Night alumni Rin and Illyavasel. I do not have a Saber, I was kind of getting used to the idea that I could be happy without a Saber but now that I have Sakura I am rethinking that.. it wouldn’t be immediately but I am definitely thinking about it.

I also got Sakura’s transformation set. I already sent off my Option head #4 to Requiemart eventually it will be turned into a Dark Sakura as I loved the idea of owning both a Sakura DD as well as an evil Sakura but I didn’t want another set of twins (the Yokos would not be pleased with me) so this seemed like a good solution. Reminds me I need to put a dollfie dream body on my “to buy” list it will probably just share a body with whoever for a little when I get it back..

Her face up and sculpt is really pretty. When compared to Rin she is a lot less angular and lacks her sharp features, she has a soft and kind face.

She is such a gorgeous doll, I wish it hadn’t been so overcast today. I really wanted to do a proper shoot with her but time outside with a camera under an umbrella was limited.

I think I am going to take her to the park after work tomorrow and hopefully get some better pictures of her. I need to photograph my dirty dozen together soon, I am still in kind of disbelief that I now own a dozen dollfie dreams >_<

Doll Meet @ Animadness

I went to a dolly meet yesterday at AniMadness it had been quite some time since my last doll meet so I was pretty excited about it. Although my last visit to the store was in February, the last doll meet was way back in January. I did see them at Anime Boston, so I was not totally deprived of their awesomeness… I can’t believe the last meet was in February, it seems like so long ago that I brought Cheshire home.

They gave us a slightly bigger space to display the dolls this time unfortunately it was kind of a mixed blessing as it was hard to get a photograph of everything at the same time ^^;

There was a pretty nice variety of dolls, I personally ended up bringing a total of 15 dolls with me 10 Pullips, 1 Blythe, 1 J-doll, 1 Dal, 1 Byul and my Yui Dollfie Dream. We had a couple of blythe collectors join us this time, normally I bring a blythe and she is the only blythe at the meet but this time we had six or seven.

The photo set ups were nice but I didn’t actually utilize any of them myself, some of my dolls might have been utilized though. It was nice to chat with other collectors even if I didn’t feel like photographing everything endlessly yesterday. I was kind of sleep deprived and cranky ^^;

Of course the doll I was most excited to see was Nelliel the Requiemart custom of the character from Bleach. Honestly I don’t even really care for Bleach but she is so awesome that I want to own her badly and will try and scrape, scrounge up the cash to bring her home next month.

So what did I get yesterday? I didn’t actually buy anything at the store which was a first combination of this month not being the best financially and my own indecisiveness.

The grand majority of stuff I got was actually from PUDDLE the pullip convention that I was unfortunately unable to attend in Illinois earlier this year. Requiemart was able to attend and was kind enough to bring me a giftbag full of all sorts of goodies. Requiemart also picked me up a large doll case for one of my dollfies at a flea market recently, she previously got one herself and customized it for Big Pullip and I am hoping to customize this one myself for my own dollfies (I have not selected the lucky owner as of yet). My pullip Ala also returned to me from being spray matted, she was super shiny and it was a bit problematic to photograph her so I asked Requiem to remove her shine for me.. I also got the Magnificent Mile J-doll from Requiem, apparently due to copyright this particular J-doll can not be sold state-side. She is a gorgeous doll so it is kind of a shame that she can not be sold in the states. Then there were a few decidedly non-doll related items that I got yesterday, one of the girls at the meet lived right next to a comic book shop that Joe Quinones was signing autographs at knowing that I am a huge Harley Quinn fan she went and got his autograph for me on the new Harley Quinn one-shot. I traded for two wigs at the meet, one pullip sized and for one of my msds I also managed to trade for some clothes that I had been wanting for forever. I also traded for a Flcl doll but I honestly just plan on stealing the clothes from her for one of my other dolls hehe.

AniMadness store..yet again

I went to another pullip meet yesterday at Animadness, I love the store plus I haven’t been to a doll meet in quite some time so I was very excited about the meet. I wish they were closer to me so I could justify going there more often, as it is it’s about a three hour drive for me so a bit excessive to go there all the time but it is nice to go there for doll meets and do some shopping occasionally. It’s a store in semi-reasonable driving distance that stocks pullips, how is that not win? I will make a separate entry for the doll meet itself immediately following this one..

Speaking of their pullip selection, their new shipment did not arrive yet which made me kind of a sad panda. They did have a decent selection including many rares like Leprotto and Noir it’s kind of amazing to see NRFB Leprotto just chilling on the shelf especially considering all the hoops I had to jump through to find one for sale myself. The owners are incredibly accommodating, while they don’t have an online store you can email them if you are interested in the rare dolls they are very cool about stuff like that.

I was once again floored by their selection of anime goodies, I haven’t buying much anime stuff lately so it was a bit overwhelming to see all the goodies.

When I go back next month if she is still there, I am getting a Yui plush to cuddle with my Yui dollfie.

I have never seen so much gloomy bear in all my life!

They have dvds, I didn’t really look at them that closely though.

They even have pinky street, a collection of mine that I have been woefully neglecting! I am in the process of getting most if not all of them back out on display in my doll room though maybe that means I can start buying them again hmmm..

Lots of figmas and nendoroids, they still have some of the hard to find ones I am surprised no one has snatched them all up yet.

This wall of figures actually extends more unfortunately because we were still doll meeting during this pic I had to cut corners to keep people out of the shots. I basically just kind of got bored during the meet and started photographing the store not that I didn’t enjoy the meet I was just very much waiting for the swap to start at that point.

They seemed to have got a new shipment of Gundams in recently, I was quite impressed with their selection although it was a bit funny that someone actually got me to admit that I actually have more Gundam kits then them currently stored in my bedroom >_<

There are still parts of the store I have yet to photograph due to the confines of doing these photos at meets but I am really thinking about going back up next month to visit Requiemart and we will probably go to the store and have the place relatively to ourselves bwahahahaha!

PSA-Animadness Pullip Meet- August 22nd

There will be another pullip meet at the Animadness store in Waltham, MA on Sunday, August 22nd. The meet starts at 2pm and goes until whenever we have had our fill of dollies. The shop owners are very awesome to us doll collector’s, in addition to being a somewhat local source of dolls for us all they also host meets for us occasionally. I believe this will be Animadness’ third pullip meet, I have previously attended two and will be attending this one barring any exigent circumstances.

In addition to 10% off doll purchases, you will also get a free blindbox re-ment with the purchase of a doll. There will be three different photo set-ups at the store for pictures (school, beach and Alice in Wonderland) and there will be a swap meet (buy/sell/trade doll stuff). While it is primarily a pullip meet-up other dolls are welcome as well (I normally bring at least a bjd and a blythe along).

365 Doll Project Part 9

Again a week where things should have been quiet but they were decidedly not. I preordered Bonita from Pullipstyle (by the way they were able to drop the price an additional $15 and refunded everyone that had already ordered her, PS is a class act). I successfully rehomed my Enchanted Petal Blythe, she had been on the market for a while with no reasonable offers and someone I knew had been wanting their first blythe so we worked out a trade; I am getting a set of nude/bald Cosmic Twins Jupi and Mercu for my blythe. I am very happy that my EP has found a new loving home and am also looking to my own new additions. I also got in a new wig as well as a custom outfit by Angelberries, the outfit was originally commissioned by someone else as an upsized version of little dal Neiryo’s stock but once I got my hands on it I decided to use it for Dr.Skittles here.

And a funny little side story, I live in a converted historical building it’s an awesome apartment and I love it. My neighbors seem nice enough but due to ventilation, I am very aware they are heavy smokers and not of tobacco. I left my camera in my car a few days ago when I went to get it, my neighbors were on the back porch and gave me a large metal spider as they were terrified of it. They were absolutely petrified of the spider, even though it was very much metal and not real, now if it was a real spider that size…I would probably faint but to be afraid of a toy spider makes wonder how much they had smoked that evening. Free metal spiders don’t come along every day so of course I actually took my gift of the metal spider and promptly photographed dolls on it.

Just a note next week’s post is going to be extremely late, I am going to be away and I sincerely doubt I will have any internet access while I am away. My laptop is currently out for repairs still (it’s been a bloody month) and while I am taking along a laptop it runs Windows 2000 with 192 mb of RAM I am not sure what if any type of connection I will be able to establish with it, oh and it appears the keyboard is out on it as well >_< My plan for the doll of the day is to take all of the pictures as normal (I am bringing along a bag full of mini pullips/dals) but I will probably not be able to upload them until my return.

2003-2010 Autumn Pullip Complete Style Book & Limited Pullip Bonita

Groove is releasing a new book about pullip. There was previously one other book released by Jun Planning Lovely Pullip Magazine that came out way back in 2005; it featured patterns, an overview of all the dolls released up until that point, pictures of customs as well as customizing tips and tricks. The book was entirely in Japanese and the patterns were extremely hard to follow from what I understand The new book 2003-2010 Autumn Pullip Complete Style Book is due out the end of the month. The new book is supposed to chronicle pullip from 2003 through this fall’s releases, it will also feature all of the other dolls released in the line (Taeyang, Namu, Byul, Dal and all manner of minis) as well as AI dolls and J-doll. I think it will be a handy reference but it is worth noting that the new book is also in Japanese. It does not seem that there will be patterns or customization tutorials this time around but we shall see when the book gets here, I guess!

The book is available for preorder for $38 + shipping on Pullipstyle for those interested.

If you are anything like me, you probably noticed the gorgeous doll on the cover of said book. Her name is Bonita and she is a limited edition pullip that is being marketed with the new pullip book. She is limited to 1500 pieces. She is an absolute vision of loveliness, she reminds me slightly of Hello Kitty but I love Hello Kitty so I am not complaining.

She is on sale at Virusdoll for about $205 to the US, Plasticpop.de has her in Europe. Pullipstyle has her on sale as a set with the book and a matching bag for $174.95 and that’s where I ended up caving and preordering. The bag for those curious, it doesn’t exactly look stellar but it’s world’s better than the H.Naoto bags that came with the H.Naoto dolls in my opinion.

November Pullip Line Announced

November’s dolls were officially announced earlier today.

She’s a cute little ragdoll.

She is definitely a unique pullip with her small eyebrows and her yarn hair. She vaguely reminds me of Marianne but I can’t quite put my finger on why she does. Their make up is not really similar maybe it is the lack of bangs I’m actually pretty excited about her already got a name and a profile in mind for her…

Dal Risa Vintage Rock Version I’ll tell me the secret RISA ♥ Spirit in girls ROCK! Cloudybay because I’ll enjoy every day!

Risa is based off of the Japanese model/singer/actress Risa Hirako.

Risa is way too adorable, I am very excited about her probably the most excited I have been about a dal in a long time.

There is also a second version of Risa floating around called the Sweet version, she will probably be limited I have no idea when she is being released.

Byul Rhiannon

The steampunk byul, I am very excited about her and will probably be preordering her but I am also somewhat cautious because Eos’ quality turned out to be less than stellar.
