Happy Pullip World Doll Carnival Exclusives Pullips Canele & Varele Announced

Groove officially announced Pullips Canele & Varele today. Photos have been teased of Canelle for a while now and most people assumed she was to be the Doll Carnival exclusive doll for this year, what I don’t think anyone was expecting was that she has a twin! Both Canele & Varele have a MSRP of 18000 yen each.

Doll Carnival is a yearly one-day only event dedicated to Pullip hosted by Groove (previously by Jun Planning). The first Doll Carnival was held in 2007, normally new and upcoming doll releases are shown off at these events as well as prototypes that may or may not eventually become releases.  Every year that has been a doll released as a carnival exclusive  (2007 Dal Jouet, 2008 Pullip Isolde, 2009 Dal Chanti, 2010 Pullips Chloi & Clara & Dal Sweet Risa, 2011 Pullip LOL Miku, 2012 Pullips Princess Sapphire, Rche, Nanette & Tokidoki Luna ) . This year Doll Carnival will be held at the 9th floor of Hankyu Umeda Osaka head office.

Feel Like So: Merry-go-round that turns to something round and round, Carnival is coming today, Now, such a mood ….. Let’s enjoy together
I’ve been fawning over Pullip Canele since Groove first posted her picture last month, I absolutely adore her and will stop at nothing to bring this girl home. She reminds me a bit of Pullip Classical White Rabbit.

Feel Like So: Let’s take dance hand-in-hand, And the 1st carnival today. Mood such ….. you continue around to fit the rondo
Varele is the new girl, she is a cooler palette swap of Canele. Both of their face ups, wigs and stock outfits seem to be pretty much identical except for color and patterns on the stock. Both girls are gorgeous but I find I have a slight preference for Canele.

At this point it is assumed that these two will be the Doll Carnival exclusives but I should note that the wording towards the end of Groove’s post was a little weird and it sort of implies that Canele will be later for general sale at a later date/time and that details about this would be forthcoming- as soon as I find out any additional information about Canele’s release I will update this post.

Nightmare Taeyang Ruka

Groove recently collaborated with the Japanese visual kei band Nightmare to make a set of five dolls based upon the different band members. Pullipstyle was able to get a small number of the dolls in stock and offered me the chance to borrow a few so I could take some photos of them as there was only one not so great stock photo of all the dolls together. The stock photo really did the dolls an injustice as they are absolutely amazing in person.
RukaRuka  is the drummer for Nightmare, he is actually the second drummer Nightmare has had. He replaced Zannin the original drummer for Nightmare after he left the group.
Ruka
Unlike the other two Nightmare dolls Yomi and Ni-ya I reviewed previously, Ruka was only available through Pullipstyle if you bought the entire Nightmare set which they have since sold out of. As of this writing both Yomi and Ni-ya are still available on Pullipstyle. I believe I was sent Ruka to review as I had been asking about him ever since the moment I knew Pullipstyle was going to get the Nightmare set.

Groove has finally announced the rest of January’s releases including Byul Fata, Isul Vermelho and Pang-ju Darjeeling as well as a whole ton of MIO (Make it Own) items. Kuhn has a sexy magician theme and I am absolutely in love with her! Oh how I want this mysterious beauty. Unfortunately it’s getting towards the end of the year when I need to cut off my doll buying so I can start focusing on Christmas stuff. I’m very tempted to make her my last doll of the year (Akemi is already preordered so she doesn’t count), the only thing holding me back from preordering her right this moment is the rumored Doll Carnival exclusive. I absolutely love the pictures that I’ve seen if she even is the doll, and I have no idea how expensive she is going to end up being.

As of right now she is being listed as JPGroove shop exclusive, so it seems that Pullipstyle may not be able to offer her at this time.

How to customize Pullip: The guide for the not that particularly artistically skilled/inclined ! Part 2 & Reveal

Recently Groove started releasing blank Make it Own or MIO kits ideal for customization, JPGroove very graciously sent me some of the MIO items to review here including some of the kits. The kits are starting to become more readily available through Pullipstyle and are selling lightning quick as everyone has been waiting for this as they want custom dolls too. Unfortunately the other side of this is now that kits are readily available customizer’s wait lists have now filled for the next several months, maybe you aren’t that particularly artistically skilled or maybe you have had tried to customizing before only for it to end badly and you don’t think you can do it. I’ve put together a simple How To Guide for customizing Pullip for those of us who aren’t that skilled because hey, everyone has to start somewhere.

And now without further ado here is the second and final part of our How to Customize Pullip: The Guide for the not that particularly artistically skilled/inclined. Obviously reading the previous post Part 1 would be a great idea before trying to skip ahead and read this one.

At the end maybe someone will even introduce themselves.

How to customize Pullip: The guide for the not that particularly artistically skilled/inclined ! Part 1

Recently I’ve been talking a lot about how the Make It Own blank Pullip kits are absolutely amazing because the possibilities of what could be done with them are basically endless….in the skilled customizer’s hands anyway. But what if you aren’t that particularly skilled or inclined? You could commission someone else to do it that’s normally what I do but virtually every customizer I know of”s wait list just filled up for the next several months the second these kits were announced. Of course you could always try to do it yourself…

When I found out the MIO kit was coming from Groove, I asked Requiemart to teach me how to customize it.  What are Requiemart’s qualifications? She made this darling little killer below for one and when I said made it that means she not only customized the doll, she also custom-made and styled her wig and her outfit from scratch (the only thing she did not make was her hat and shoes).
170/365- Custom Pullip Duela Dent
oh and this one too because Groove has done Alice to death (haha!) the only original way left to go would be a Zombie Alice.
Alice omega
And those are just two of the custom dolls that she made that I now own, she’s made many, many others.

I love custom dolls but virtually all of mine were commissioned or bought already customized because I made an honest assessment of my customizing skills a long time ago and realized that I was much better at coming up with ideas for customs than actually customizing. For anyone morbidly curious this is my first ever custom here also my extremely early photography so it isn’t pretty by any stretch of the imagination, she has since been recustomized by Requiemart into the lovely Nyx. The goal of this experiment was not to make jaw-dropping amazing custom dolls like hers as that takes years of experience and a level of skill I’ll never be able to achieve but for me an unskilled person to make a reasonably simple but pretty custom. If I can make a custom, anyone can make a custom!

Nightmare Taeyang Ni-ya

Nightmare is a Japanese Visual Kei band. This past summer Groove  collaborated with them to make a set of dolls based on the band. The dolls: Four Taeyangs and a single Isul are all limited to 500 each and have a MSRP of 18000 yen each. Recently Pullipstyle was able to obtain a small quantity  of the Nightmare set and offered me the opportunity to borrow a few of the dolls for photos, they have since sold out of the Nightmare set but still have a small amount of Isul Yomi and Taeyang Ni-ya available.

I’ll be reviewing Taeyang Ni-ya today. Ni-ya is the bassist of Nightmare.

MIO (Make it Own) Wigs revisited

I previously reviewed the Make it Own or MIO wigs a while back, Pullipstyle had very graciously loaned me their production samples so that I could review them here. JPGroove then very graciously sent me a box of MIO items including the wigs for me to play with. I decided to try the wigs on different dolls (well mostly, Princess Rosalind had already staked her claim on the one) this time around and get some more pictures.
