Rozen Maiden Keikujyaku Pullip

If you are a fan of the Rozen Maiden series, you are probably wondering who the heck Keikujyaku is as she is not a character from the series. Keikujyaku is the winner of a design contest held by the Gothic + Lolita Bible magazine that gave people the chance to design a theoretical eighth Rozen Maiden doll, the winner’s design was to be made into a Pullip and that Pullip is Keikujyaku.
Keikujyaku

I am the 8th doll of the imaginary world!! It’s Okay if you’re clumsy… There are dancing ribbons and fluffy marshmallow teardrops… Feel Like So.

Here is a scan of the announcement of the winner in Gothic & Lolita Bible Magazine. On the right is an illustration of Shinku with the new doll Keikujyaku by Peach Pitt (otherwise known as the creator of Rozen Maiden and Shugo Chara), on the opposite side is the original illustration of the winning design as well as various promotional photos of Pullip Keikujyaku as well as a model wearing a human sized version of Keikujyaku. I *think* there were plans to release the human sized version of the outfit by Alice and the Pirates but all the links that were previously on Baby, the Stars Shine Bright’s website mentioning the contest have vanished so maybe it’s been canceled?

Pullip MIO Kits updated information & photo comparison

Just dropping a note here as I know a lot of people have been asking about the new MIO kits, Pullipstyle has posted up two of the new MIO kits up for preorder. For those of you who don’t know MIO or Make It Own kits are blank doll kits you can assemble and customize yourself so the possibilities are endless. The Pale MIO kit and the Tanned MIO kit are slated for a May release here in the US. The other two MIO kits Pale as well as the re-release of the Natural MIO kits should be out roughly a month later.

I do not have the new MIO kits on hand, I do however have the dolls that are said to be the same skin tones as the MIO kits so I decided to do a comparison.
MIO Skin tones

Byul Cheshire Cat = Tanned Skin MIO kit
Pullip Kuhn = Fair Skin MIO kit
Pullip Nostalgia Merl= Natural MIO kit
Pullip Wilhelmenia = Pale MIO kit

Comparison
Pullip Peter Pan versus Cheshire Cat Byul, as a lot of people have asked about how the two compared.

EDIT: Two more comparison pictures!
Skin tone comparison
A more direct skin tone comparison of Pullip Kuhn (said to be the same color as the Fair MIO kit) and Pullip Nostalgia Merl (said to the same color as the Natural MIO kit).
Skin tone comparison
Skin tone comparison between Pullip Kuhn (said to be the same color as the Fair MIO kit), Pullip Naomi on a white skin obitsu and Pullip Nostalgia Merl (said to the same color as the Natural MIO kit).

More Pullip MIO kits to be released!

A new batch of MIO or Make It Own blank Pullip kits have been announced, they are ideal for collectors who like to customize to make their own unique Pullip. Three new MIO skin tones have been revealed and they will be released soon in kit form.

skintones_zpsc4f60fae
Top Row: Natural Skin was previously released in the first round of kits, Fair Skin is new but looks very similar to Natural skin except with slightly more of a yellow undertone versus the pink undertone  of the Natural.
Bottom Row: Tanned Skin is supposed to be as tan as the Cheshire Cat Byul so it’s really not that dark of a tan unfortunately. Pale Skin is ghastly pale and grey.

Thoughts:  I feel like the fair skin is like a missed opportunity to do something more interesting as it so very close to the already released natural skintone kit. The skintone on the tan doll is nice but I would have loved to have seen a darker tan MIO kit, which seems to pretty much be universal among the fanbase here in the US. I’m personally very excited about the grey MIO kit, I love horror/gore customs and I’ve already got plans for two different customs using this kit. I’d love to see more fantasy skintones if Groove continues releasing MIO kits in new skintones, I’d kill for a sky blue Pullip MIO kit.

Quick Q&A-
When are they being released? Exact date is unknown but I’ve heard that they will be released soon.
Where will they be available? Pullipstyle has confirmed they will be carrying them.
How much will they cost? I imagine about as much as the previously released kits so probably around $35 a pop.
I’m a beginner, how do I assemble and customize MIO? I’ve already done a series of posts on how to assemble MIO as well as how to customize for the not that particularly artistically inclined: Part 1 and Part 2.
Will the new doll kits match obitsu? The natural MIO kit matches obitsu white, I’d imagine since fair skin is so close in color it would be a fair match as well but it’s really unknown at this time.
Will I be reviewing the kits here? Eh, I intend to buy two of the pale skintone MIO kits for custom projects and possibly one of the tan ones as well but depending on how my results are they may or may not be photographed especially since my plans for one of the pale kits is pretty extreme so there is a pretty good chance I’ll screw it up.

It is not known how limited availability of these kits will be or if other doll kits like Isul/Taeyang/Dal kits will be released in the new skintones as well.

UPDATE Groove has now posted about the new MIO kits on their blog, the tan and fair skin MIO kits are set to be released pretty much immediately in Japan so it’ll probably take a few weeks to a month for them to filter down to us in the US. The pale as well as the re-release of the natural skin MIO kits are set to be released in May in Japan.

Groove has also stated that the MIO kits are equivalent to the following dolls’ skin tones-
Fair skin MIO kit – Pullip Kuhn
Tanned skin MIO kit – Byul Cheshire Cat
Natural skin MIO kit – Pullip Merl Nostalgia Version
Pale skin MIO kit – Pullip Wilhelmina

Rozen Maiden Pullip Shinku 2014

I have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with Rozen Maiden these days, don’t get me wrong I love the series but it ended up being somewhat of a Pandora’s box for me. The series renewed my interest in anime and it got me buying anime figures again… and it also led to my starting to collect these odd dolls with disproportionately large heads called Pullips. If only I knew then what I know now, eh who I am kidding I have no regrets I do it all over again.

Jun Planning (Groove’s forerunner) collaborated with TBS to release a series of dolls based on the likenesses of various characters from Rozen Maiden.  Rozen Maiden was the first major collaboration for Pullip, since then Pullip has collaborated with Tokidoki, Sanrio, H.Naoto, Baby, the Stars Shine Bright among many others. Eventually nine dolls were released including Pullips Shinku, Suiseiseki, Souseiseki, Suigintou & Barasuishou; LE Pullip Detective Shinku & Kirakishou and Dals Kanaria and Hina Ichigo between 2006-2008. Shinku was my first Pullip, I received her as a birthday present I had wanted Dal Hina Ichigo as she was my favorite character as my first but the not quite Mr. Klein bought me Shinku instead. I liked her so much that I ended up ordering Suiseiseki myself that night from Pullipstyle.

Last year a new Rozen Maiden tv series called Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen aired and Groove has again partnered with Rozen Maiden to release a new series of dolls based on the characters. The new version of Pullip Shinku was released in March in Japan, she is being released very shortly here in the US. I’m very fortunate to have a product sample of Shinku from JPGroove to review here.

Will you wind it?

Hello Kitty x Tokidoki x Pullip Collaboration Announced!

Groove announced another doll release named Violetta for April (May for us in the US) via their blog this morning. Violetta is a collaboration between Pullip, Tokidoki and Hello Kitty (Sanrio).  Tokidoki is a lifestyle brand that debuted  in 2005 and was created by Italian artist Simone Legno. A wide variety of  items featuring Tokidoki artwork have been released over the year everything from clothing to skateboards to purses. Hello Kitty was created by Sanrio and is popular with young and old alike, countless merchandise featuring her has been produced over the years. Hello Kitty and Tokidoki have collaborated together for years to release products such as purses/clothes featuring both Hello Kitty and Tokidoki designs.

Previously Groove has collaborated with Tokidoki to release two Pullips: Luna and her recolor Lunarosa. Groove has also collaborated with Sanrio in the past to release two Pullips Hello Kitty and My Melody and two Dals both based on Cinnamoroll as well as some mini dolls. The potential for this triple collaboration release has been there for a while and I should have seen it coming though I never could have predicted how absolutely gorgeous the end result would be.

Package from Groove: Rozen Maiden Shinku & Keikujyaku Pullips

I received an email from JPGroove a few days ago, they let me know that TokyoOtakuMode had featured some of my and Truefan’s photos in an article about Pullip that we had previously submitted pictures to Groove for and that we should both be expecting packages. I did not expect a package to arrive the very next morning.

I received Rozen Maiden Pullips Shinku & Keikujyaku from Groove. Groove (actually Groove’s predecessor Jun Planning) previously collaborated with Rozen Maiden to release a series of dolls based on the dolls back in 2006-2008. Eventually nine dolls were released in the first series of Rozen Maiden dolls including Pullips Shinku, Suiseiseki, Souseiseki, Suigintou, Barasuishou; LE Pullips Kirakishou and Detective Shinku; Dals Hina Ichigo and Kanaria.  The Rozen Maiden series of dolls was the first major collaboration for Pullip.  A new Rozen Maiden television series launched last year, Rozen Maiden Zurückspulen which was a lot more faithful to the manga series in both character design and story.
Untitled
If you are familiar with the anime/manga series you may be wondering who this unfamiliar doll next to Shinku is. Her name is Keikujyaku, she is the result of a design contest held jointly by Baby, the Stars Shine Bright and Groove. The design contest allowed people to submit designs for a theoretical doll by Rozen, the winner of the contest would have their design turned into both a Pullip doll by Groove and a life-size outfit set by Alice, the Stars Shine Bright sub-brand Alice and the Pirates.
Rozen Maiden Keikujaku & Shinku
I love the Rozen Maiden series, it was what got me into Pullips in the first place. I received my first Pullip, the original Shinku as a birthday gift over seven years ago. Words can not express how thankful I am to Groove for sending me these two dolls to review and both dolls should have their reviews up here as quickly as possible, definitely within the next few days.

Preorders for Keikujyaku and Shinku are available for preorder via JPGroove and Pullipstyle. Speaking of Rozen Maiden preorders, Suigintou just went up for preorder on Pullipstyle as well.

Pullip MIO (Make It Own) Vest & Jean Sets

MIO or Make It Own is a new line of customizable Pullip products, products in this line include everything from blank doll kits to wigs and outfit sets. Today we will be focusing on one on two of the outfit sets released as part of the MIO line, the Vest & Jeans set. JPGroove very generously sent me both sets to review here.
MIO
This set is designed to fit Pullip and Isul, in general it’s kind of surprising how interchangeable their clothing actually is.

Byul Pollon

Ah Byul, I love you but you definitely aren’t the most popular member of the Pullip family. Byul debuted in late 2008, so far there have been a total of twenty seven different Byuls released. She is Dal’s best friend, I always thought it was kind of funny that Dal’s best friend has been released in doll form already when Pullip’s best friend Ggot still hasn’t been into an actual doll yet. While Byul means star in Korean but it almost sounds like a disease, if that’s the case it seems I’ve got a bad case of Byul.
Lullaby
This is Lullaby, she is a Byul Pollon. She has been rewigged in one of the Make It Own or MIO wigs and rechipped with custom Blythe chips. She is wearing the Angelic Pretty Decoration Dream Sax Version Set outfit set. Isn’t she precious?
pollon
If nothing else, I think it can be agreed upon that she looks better now than she had in her stock form. When promotional photos of Pollon surfaced so many years ago I thought she was rather bland and I didn’t really give her a second thought until I saw some owner photos of her outside of her stock clothes. I happened to spot a used Pollon on eBay recently and decided to buy her and absolutely no regrets.
Lullaby
I wish more people would give Byul a chance as she sure has a lot of potential.
