Incoming- My Little Candy and other thoughts on blythe

My Little Candy has been on wish list when she was first announced and then it was revealed that she was limited. Seeing how hard standard blythe releases can be to attain (HLJ canceled my preorders for Punkaholic People and Heather Sky because they ran out before they got to me) I never expected to be able to get my hands on her.

I emailed a doll shop recently about an entirely different type of doll and they responded back that they did not have the doll I was looking for at the moment, they did have the My Little Candy blythe that I had previously asked about. I pounced on her like a ninja ^^; She will be my first stock limited blythe. My only other limited PCM was pretty much customized beyond recognition before I got her.

I am so excited that My Little Candy will finally be joining my blythe crew.

After purchasing My Little Candy, I have been thinking about my blythe family a lot. My original goal was to keep my blythe family small and to have one doll with each of the different face molds. To further the keeping the family small goal, if I don’t bond with a blythe I try to sell or trade it off pretty quickly. The way I had everything planned out I have an absolute maximum of twenty six blythe family members (each one will have a name starting with a different letter of the alphabet). So far I have rehomed a total of seven blythes (RN, LM, PDAA, Goldie, Mondie, PD2Se, PD3As) and I still own eleven (ADG-RR, CCC, SVB, FrFr, PD3Vi, FrFr, PCM- Custom, PDHS, FruPu, SH & RR).

I still have Simply Lilac and Simply Peppermint preordered but it is at hlj again who have canceled my last two blythe preorders so if I get them that’s great, if not well I am trying to keep a fairly small family size. I have a feeling if I do actually get them I will probably rehome one or the other, not sure which one though.

I think I want to go through today and reevaluate my current blythe wishlist as I really know what it is I like now.

Arrival- Hong Kong exclusive pullip Sala

Sala was part of a new set of three limited pullip releases that were released throughout the summer, all three dolls were released in different countries at different times throughout this summer and all three dolls are limited to three hundred. The first pullip was Lala and she was the US exclusive and she was available at San Deigo Comic-con. Sala was released soon after and she was a Hong Kong exclusive. Sola was released around the same time and she was limited to distribution in Japan.

I had previously decided I would not purchase any pullips this month, then I seen escalating prices on ebay so I caved and purchased a somewhat reasonably priced Sala from Toysonline2002 . She arrived today.

Based on the decision that I was not supposed to get any pullips this month, I have decided that her name shall be Contraband.

I don’t love her as much as her twin Lala sisters: Collision and Concussion, her colors are too clashy. Her lips are pretty and her eye make up is gorgeous I just don’t think they necessarily belong on the same doll that being said I like her a lot more redressed.

I will probably try and pick up Sola to complete the set some time next month.

Surprise- Pullip Sfoglia

I was told to expect a surprise pullip or dal today but was given no further details. Sfoglia arrived this afternoon, I somehow missed hearing the doorbell ring when the postman came during a zilla rampage but the property manager spirited her down to me late in the afternoon.

Sfoglia is part of a collaboration between pullip and Angelic Pretty (Japanese lolita clothing company). I remember being excited about her when she was announced, sure she was wearing pink frills and ruffles (and even had little hearts in her eyes) but her grin had this maniacal quality to it that I could not resist. Unfortunately I had to cancel my preorder for her, I ended up canceling a lot of my pullip preorders recently but she was the only one where it really hurt me to do so.

I have decided to keep her actual stock name, as I remember being ever so amused with it when it was announced and I honestly think that it suits her well.

My Little Pony- Junko Mizuno

When I seen Requiemart’s collection of My Little Ponies it brought back memories of the literally 100s I had as a child. They are all packed away in the attic now but it kind of awakened in an inch in me to get a few mlp of my own, especially after seeing her awesome customs.

A few months ago I was browsing on bigbadtoystore when I seen an art pony that was on preorder by the artist Junko Mizuno. I love Junko Mizuno’s artwork so I figured she would be the perfect pony for me.

I am so glad I actually preordered her. She is the perfect marriage of my little pony and Junko Mizuno.

Pullip Progress

Things had been fairly quiet on the pullip front for quite some time as I focused on other areas of my collecting but now that I am refocusing my energies I have started buying pullips again after realizing I was already seven or eight dolls behind.

After seeing the rising prices on ebay I thought it prudent to pick up a Sala before her price soared even more. Considering I was not supposed to buy any new pullips this month (and the fact that her twin Lala sisters names are Concussion and Collision) I have decided to name her Contraband. I still need to pick up a Sola but she will have to wait a little while.

I also recently purchased a nude Maguna. He was not a doll I really needed but I previously owned a Maguna very briefly before trading him away but kind of missed him and I seen an unbelievable deal on him I couldn’t pass up. His name will be Hollis Heartspark and I intend on making him somewhat punk. I also have a mystery gift doll on the way, all I know is that she is someone I need that I hadn’t had a chance to purchase yet.

If that wasn’t enough to keep me busy, I received an email from Papermoonpixie. I own several of her customs, including her very first custom the lovely Malice and she offered to upgrade her as her skills have progressed a lot since then. I took her up on her offer and countered with one of my own, I proposed that I include two additional dolls when I ship Malice to her. One doll for her to keep and one doll for her to customize into an orange themed elf for me (orange being my favorite color), she accepted my counter offer 😀 .

I am also currently in the process of acquiring another Requiemart custom. The beautiful Hinoto is based off of the character from the Clamp manga/anime X.

I had admired pictures of her in her gallery for years but I never dreamed I would own her. I am extremely happy to get the chance to adopt her.

I am still behind in my pullip/dal collecting but I hope to catch up quickly as of right now I still need: Pullip-Sfoglia, Dal-Puki, Dal-Erenfreid, Dal-Maretti, Pullip- Sola, Pullip-Princess Ann & Dal- Ciel Robin Ver. I know one of them is currently in the mail but I don’t know which one yet, it should hopefully be here on Monday. I haven’t bought a dal in almost three months now ^^;

The beginning of the end

I get anxious staying in one space for too long, I guess. I think this will honestly and truly be the last move though.

Due to recent changes in my circumstances and a rare chance for some solitude where I could really stop and think about things, I have decided that it is time for changes. The anime figures don’t really make me happy the way that they used to, I was a lot happier years ago when I only bought a few of my very favorite figures a month rather than getting basically every figure I even somewhat fancy. I am going to turn my attention back to only getting a few of my very favorite figures a month, the good news is this will free up a lot more money for other pursuits like dollfie dreams, pullips, bjds, blythes, video games and comics. I think overall this will make me happier.

That being said, I will not be getting huge batches of anime figures anymore. I will only be getting the absolute favorites, don’t worry I still have literally around 1500 in my apartment to keep me busy photographing/blogging to my heart’s content.

Doll Meet

I had a doll meet with Requiem yesterday as it had been a while since our last one and we both needed to catch up on the latest dolly happenings in each other’s lives.

I got to see her newest custom dal and one of my personal favorites of her Princessa again.

I also fetched back a handful of dolls that had been with her for a while now.. including Lady Murasaki who passing through several owners was starting to look a bit worse for wear. Lady Murasaki was originally a custom named Selene by requiem but she had passed through a lot of different owners and each one decided to tweak her, here and there plus general wear and tear made her ready for a spa vacation. Here she is in her renewed form…

One of our original intentions was to make a kimono for one of my dollfies only we failed hardcore as we didn’t have a piece of fabric big enough but it was not entirely fruitless as we did make a skirt for Yoko and when I got home I made a matching shirt.

I had the hardest time making the top fitted around Yoko’s massive bust >_<

For having like no aptitude for sewing I think it worked out fairly well 😀

New arrival- Pullip Mir

I had one new other new arrival the other day, the pullip Mir. She’s my first new pullip in a while opening her up reminded me why I liked pullips in the first place and made me want to catch up (I am currently seven behind in the great quest to collect all of them, I did have all of them then fell behind on the newer releases while I pursued dollfies). I have decided to name her Oni.

She is by far the palest pullip I have ever seen, she is so stark white that people in the pullip community have had trouble rebodying theirs but I personally don’t rebody unless something goes horribly wrong (my Street for example just got rebodied because her neck broke) so I don’t think it will effect me. Her stock is actually pretty well made if not a bit bizarre (I am told it is something like a hanbook (sp?) a traditional Korean dress).

Photographically speaking she is so pale she tends to wash out especially in non- close up photos like the one above.

As striking as she is, her face up reminds me so much of other pullips, her eye make up greatly resembles Fanatica’s for example and her lips Cinciallegra’s. I love the kanji in her eye although at this point I can’t even remember what it means (ghost? demon? can’t remember).

I am going to a meet with Requiemart today (blowing off work) so anticipate another doll post either today or tomorrow.

Suprise- 1/4 scale Asuka Figure by Aizu

An old friend of mine had called me somewhat out of the blue last week saying that he had found an Asuka figure that he thought I might like and he needed my address so he could send it to me. As happy as I was to hear from him, my heart filled with dread when I heard it was an Asuka figure as I own lots of Asuka figures and there is a greater chance of a duplicate than a non-duplicate at this point. I was pleasantly surprised when I finally fetched her from the post office today though..

Once I opened the box and seen what the figure was my jaw dropped. I was not expecting a 1/4 scale Asuka from Aizu project. Tokyo Kid had one of this same figure in their window the last time I was there and they wanted $400 some for it and I had seriously thought about it but relented and bought a bunch of different stuff instead (including my Piaway statue from Vandread). I had always kind of regretted my decision not to get her when I had the chance.

She was a most delightful surprise, not only is she huge (she’s 1/4 scale) she is absolutely gorgeous.

Last Dollfie Shoot and a DD update

This will probably be my last dollfie shoot for a little while. My partner in crime is away on business for indeterminate amount of time and the dollfie shoots only work if someone is running defense against the Godzilla baby, otherwise she asserts her dominance over the dollfies.

I had really wanted to take all six of my DDs out but I was convinced that would just too much time and effort and I didn’t have much time to work with so I grabbed the dollfie dream dynamites as a compromise (in retrospect I have less photos of the other three so I probably should have taken them instead >_<) I also decided to change all of their clothes before taking them out. Yoko put on Ryomou’s school uniform, Ryomou went into her gothic outfit set and Kanu went in Yoko’s outfit.

I actually had a few people tell me that they didn’t recognize Yoko with clothes on lol.

I cheated on the outfit and used Kanu’s floppy socks, I have a great fondness for floppy socks ^^;

Kanu’s knees are extraordinarily bad so posing her can be a bit tricky unfortunately.

Kanu’s skintone does seem to nicely compliment Yoko’s outfit though.

and finally my darling Ryomou.. I think she will always be my favorite.

Now for the update, I have a blank head on the way as we speak. I plan to have a custom Mahoro of Mahoromatic made as she is one of my favorite anime characters and I think she would make a good DD plus I think her and Yoko would be epic when photographed together especially given Mahoro’s dislike ecchi though inducing outfits like Yoko’s.
