Arrival- Volks Super Dollfie Mimi BJD

Mimi actually arrived last week, she wasn’t quite what I was expecting but I think that was kind of my own fault as I only had two pictures and a very brief description to go on. For the price I essentially got her for though I am not going to start to complain (I traded about $200 worth of gundam kits and a broken eva kit for her) She actually appears to be the first rendition of Mimi that was exclusive to Doll Party 5 way back in 2001, I am basing this assumption on her paperwork (it is all in Japanese but has 5 written in several places and the first Mimi was an exclusive to Doll Party 5) and her box which does not look like the renewal or the 2nd edition. I am honestly not sure if this is her stock face up or a custom job, I tried looking for pictures online but I wasn’t really able to find many besides Volks photos or customized Mimis. I guess, it doesn’t really matter if it is her stock face up or not though as she is getting customized. My intention as outlined in this post is turn her into Utena of Revolutionary Girl Utena.
Picture 989
I think her face structure will be perfect for Utena. Unfortunately her face up will have to be redone as it is a bit loud for Utena (it actually reminds me quite a bit of Pullip Wind’s face up). The wig I ordered for her was too small for her massive head so instead of having a baldie laying around until she can get customized I did a trade with Requiemart for her current wig (Kindle stole the Utena wig). One of her hands became detached during shipping, I still need to figure out how to reattach it ^^; . She is currently borrowing clothes/shoes from my dollfie dreams.

While I do kind of like her as is, she kind of made me reach the conclusion that Yo-SD or smaller bjds are the right size for me. For the larger girls I really prefer my dollfie dreams. I have had a hell of a time handling her so far, I think she may be strung too tight as she “kicks” quite a bit. I will probably try and restring her soon as it gets very frustrating very quickly when I am trying to photograph her.

Animadness Store

I recently attended the Pullip Masquerade at Animadness, while I had seen their booth at Anime Boston earlier this year this was my first time visiting their actual store. Animadness is located in Waltham, MA as of this writing while they do have a website but they are not open to online ordering just yet.

Picture 871

I was pleasantly surprised despite it’s relatively small size (perhaps I am spoiled by having spent some time in CA where the anime stores tend to be a bit larger) it had quite a bit of a selection and the prices were really reasonable. As far as what they actually carried, they had a little bit of everything anime related- lots of figures, plushes, pullips, osts, wall scrolls, t shirts, some gashapon/re-ment and some kits. Their OST selection kind of astounded me, they actually had a Lamune Fresh and 40 soundtrack. On the subject of music, they had a varied soundtrack playing while I was there I heard music from Noir and Revolutionary Girl Utena among others. They seemed to have a variety of wall scrolls I had never even seen before which I personally thought was kind of cool.

Picture 870

Figure prices seemed especially reasonably, they also had a good selection of new figures as well as some older figures. They had a display case with several open figures in it that I thought was pretty nice as it let you see what the figures looked like outside of their boxy prisons. If they weren’t two hours away from me I would definitely make this place more of a regular haunt. Hell, I’ll admit it..I am trying to think of an excuse to drive up there next weekend already.

Picture 872

I didn’t actually buy any anime stuff this trip as I was there for a pullip meet, and their selection got the better of me (plus there was a 10% discount if you brought a doll with you as well as a free blind box rement). The shop workers seemed really nice and pretty knowledgeable, which is always a plus I personally hate it when I go to a store and the people don’t even seem to know what they are talking about and I am talking really basic stuff (like in another anime store can you get me that Haruhi figure down? Haruhi wtf is that ).

Arrival- Kindle Custom Leprotto Dal

I picked up Kindle the morning of the meet at Requiemart‘s house before we left to go to the meet. Kindle was a happy mistake. Requiemart made her then realized her skin tone was too pale and offered to trade her for one of the dals that had a slightly darker skin tone, so she could make a more accurate Leprotto dal. I thought she was absolutely adorable as is, so I immediately ordered requiem a Colline and took Kindle home with me yesterday.
Kindle
Kindle came nude/bald I am going to commission an outfit for her and this is probably not her permanent wig. She is actually wearing Mimi’s Utena wig which turned out to be too damn small for her and since it was hanging around unused I decided to use it for Kindle. The outfit was just something quick that matched the wig ^^; I eventually plan to get her a wig similiar in color to Leprotto’s, possibly an Aquel wig as the style would be really cute on her. I apparently have a weakness for bunny pullips/dals as I now own six. For those wondering about her strange name- Kindle, is the proper name for a group of young rabbits seeing how she is based off of Leprotto and all, I thought it rather fitting.

Animadness Pullip Party

I will do a separate post about the store in general, this post will just be focused on the doll meet that happened at it yesterday. Approximately twenty pullips collectors descended on the store, this has by far been my largest pullip meet ever. I think the next largest had like seven or eight people, some people came from as far away as Syracuse, NY for this event. I drove up to requiemart’s house in the morning and we drove to the meet together because I fail directions and would have ended up in Canada rather than Waltham, MA.
IMG_0115
The scary part is this wasn’t all of them more people arrived a bit later and also added their dolls to the massive display. There was a pretty good variety of dolls at the meet, I personally brought 14 with me including one blythe, one of my bjds and of my dollfie dreams as people had never seen them in person and were curious about them. I feel as though I personally miss out on some of the fun of meets because well I have all the dolls, so the allure of seeing some of the dolls in person is kind of lost on me. Requiem brought quite a few dolls with her as well, we basically took up a shelf and a half with our dolls ^^; There was even a Zombuki there, zombukis for those of you who don’t know are were originally based off of an idea from America’s Next Top Model but the designer has gone above and beyond that idea now. There is a definite division in the pullip community about zombukies, they are either being tremendous, unique pieces of art or as overpriced, unoriginal custom. I personally love the way the designer puts together outfits and gorgeous photoshoots but I was kind of unimpressed after seeing Cheshire in person, maybe it is because I am spoiled and am used to requiemart’s flawless customs ^^; That being said I did really like Cheshire but at the price she actually went for I expected a bit more, her lips for example appeared to still be partially stock just reshaped.
IMG_0122
We did a group photo of all the dals together. Most of them belonged to me and Requiem. I brought along my JP couch and chair unfortunately the couch got broken in transit twice so me, the glue and the couch have a date later. I am hoping I can fix it >_<.
IMG_0135
There was a small swap but it was kind of unorganized. I ended up with some re-ment, a new fur wig and a mini pullip Raphia. I basically got the mini Raphia because she is a good skin tone match for Papin so she went home with Requiemart who is going to customize her into being a Papin mini for me.

IMG_0107
Of course the store itself does actually sell pullips and I am not the type to leave empty handed. Thanks to two Visa gift cards I had, I was able to bring home two new dolls with me. I bought Maretti and Papin. I bought Maretti because she is the last dal I needed to be all caught up and she is super adorable and I bought Papin well because she is a Papin and I hadn’t bought one from a physical store yet.
IMG_0184 IMG_0144

Of course once I got home, zilla had other ideas about who Maretti’s owner was. It took me hours to get her back.
Silly me Not going to give up without a fight

Doll Carnival Exclusive Chantilly

This year’s doll carnival exclusive has been revealed today. Her name is Chantilly and she is another collaboration with the lolita clothing company Angelic Pretty. She is presumably limited to 300 like the previous two doll carnival limiteds (Jouet and Isolde) before her and will more than likely be a pain to get a hold of.
Chantilly
While I do actually like her, I find it somewhat annoying that this year’s exclusive has blond hair again. So far every doll carnival exclusive has had blond hair >_< I am hoping her price does not go as insane as Jouet and Isolde's went but I am not exactly holding my breath.

Arrival- Tinker Bell Dal

I believe Tinker Bell is the preferred spelling, although I am not really sure but that is how it is listed on Pullipstyle and since that is where I bought her I will be using that spelling of her name. While I have not always been a huge Peter Pan fan in general, I have always had a fondness for Tink I even own a couple of Tinker Bell hoodies (while I never really have the reason to discuss it here I have a fairly large hoody collection of easily over 100 different hoodies) Tink arrived this morning and I was rather taken with her immediately.

IMG_0053
Tinker Bell was delivered by the most hated Fed Ex ninjas (I loathe fed ex as they never ring the damn bell, so I have a 50/50 chance of tripping over the package because they just abandoned it on the front porch or sometimes they will not leave the package or a note and if I hadn’t checked Fed ex’s tracking on more then one occasion they were getting ready to ship a package back from whence it came ). She was not traveling alone she had a Colline and a mini dal to keep her company in the shipping carton, neither of her travel companions are staying though as they are partial payment towards customization work done for me by Requiemart.

Although her stock is a bit lacking again, the overall cuteness of the dal is overwhelms any minor complaints. I do have to say her wings were fairly well made but it took me a little while to figure out how to free them from the packaging.
IMG_0041
She is an excellent representation of Tink, much like Hina Ichigo dal is an excellent representation of Hina right after she has her strawberry daifaku stolen. Dal’s sour expression seems to suit her wonderfully.

Arrival- Peter Pan Pullip

This is a bit out of order as she was actually there are a few dolls that arrived before that have not actually been blogged yet, but Pan has already been photographed and is ready to be blogged so here we go…
IMG_0023
I have decided that for all intents and purposes her name is simply Pan. Pan was the last pullip I needed to complete my again, she also happened to be the first pullip I photographed with my new DSLR. She also just missed being my 200th pullip/dal/taeyang by a day, as my newly acquired Jade arrived the day before she did. I was originally not a big fan of the idea of a Disney collaboration, Peter Pan in particular didn’t really interest me as I was not a big fan of the films growing up (the live action where Peter was played by a girl just confused me and I didn’t care for the Disney film at all). From when she was announced she just looked too plain to me and her stock always looked kind of cheap to me ^^;

I was quite surprised how gorgeous she actually was once I actually opened her up, I was originally so kind of unexcited about her that she sat in her shipping carton untouched for whole. She is actually a rather gorgeous girl and the stock while not spectacular, is much better than I thought it would be. She reminds me of Rovam and Nina, she has a very simple yet sweet face up. I think she has the potential to be very versatile, it is a pity the pullip community at large seems to be ignoring this lovely girl. I couldn’t resist the urge to put her in a dress so I did take some pictures of her out of her stock today as well.

February pullips announced- Hell Cat Punks

This morning Groove Inc. revealed February’s releases and I love every single one of them. It is another collaboration with a Japanese clothing company but this time not with a prissy lolita company Hellcatpunks are a Japanese punk clothing line and I just noticed they take international orders on their website (which means for once I will more than likely have to fight the urge to buy a matching ensemble, if they are like the H.Naoto collabs anyway).

Absolutely love everything about her although maybe a bit more make up would have been nice.

I really like him too, the only thing I feel to be lacking is the wig.. mine will be rewigged in fur- it’s just more punk that way.

Again a little more make up would have been nice but I still adore her.

Arrival Canon Rebel XS

Look what finally got delivered this morning *curse you fed ex, it was supposed to be here yesterday*. It’s a Canon Rebel XS much earlier then scheduled, but it’s here so I am going to make good use of it.
DSC03638
I just finished deboxing it and am beginning to familiarize myself with the camera and all it’s features. The battery is still charging up but I have a memory card all set to go for it. I do not need to go out and get a camera case today though.
DSC03639
Pictures shall be forthcoming.

Dolly insanity or why I am going back on a dolly diet

I have been kind of busy/ill (coughing up blood, you know tends to excuse one from being very active online), so I haven’t had a chance to share some of my more recent purchases. I was a bit overzealous so I will definitely not going to buying anything else until my next paycheck. I tend to buy things when I am stressed, being sick and taking care of an ill child all by myself tends to stress me out so I went the old retail therapy route. Some of these have actually already arrived but the new wonderful and sexy, Canon Rebel XS won’t be here until at least tomorrow (depending on whether or not I make it to the office tomorrow in time to pick it up) so pictures will be forthcoming.

I bought another J doll, I have one already (Church St) but I failed to ever really click with her.  I had been looking at some photos of J dolls and I happened to find a really good deal on Punkaa St, I also happened to have some balance left over on my paypal from my doll accessories sale so I figured I would give J doll a second chance. She arrived a few days ago, and I am glad I did actually take the chance and buy her because I love her to death. I decided to name her Azul (Spanish for blue).

I also surprisingly bought another taeyang, I am somewhat in shock that I now own 10 boys (9 taeyangs/1 namu). A friend was selling him, I still had money in my paypal account and  I thought he would make an excellant counterpart for my latest Papin, Lorelei. I tend to pair dolls up according to their relative eye/wig color, my last two couples have had reversed wig/eye colors as well it seems as scientific a method as any (I’ve also noticed the last two boys both got paired up with Papins). After a full week of being here without a name, yesterday it was decided by popular vote on twitter that his name is Dietrich.

Peter Pan was the last of the dolls to arrive, she was also the last pullip I needed to go back to owning a complete collection of pullips anyway (still working on the dolls). All the owner photos I have seen of her have been astounding, I feel somewhat guilty that mine has not even made into the apartment proper and has been hanging out still in the shipping crate at the bottom of the stairs ^^; .  I am kind of waiting to debox her until I have the new camera in hand, so I can do her justice. I think I am just going to call her Pan, I can’t bring myself to call her Peter.

After someone pointed out the cult of Tinker Bell and the fact that Fantastic Alice sold out so quickly back in the day, I thought it prudent to fast-track getting her. Plus she looks absolutely adorable in the photos I have seen of her so far.

And Robin Version Ciel, this was the final nail in the coffin. I had already decided that I was in dolly diet mode, then I decided to check VOTD’s site and noticed Robin Ver. Ciel was on sale.  Only one more dal to go on the list now.

Other Stuff-

– Byul- Tigerlily’s Stock (I do not care for Byul but have a have a Nahh-ato custom that I think would make a smashing Tigerlily)

– I also put a down payment on a Puki via Denver Doll. I probably wouldn’t have got her right now if I knew I would be getting a Volks Super Dollfie but I had always wanted three pukis. My plan has always been to name them after the Power Puff girls. I already have Blossom (Puki- Piki) and Buttercup (Puki- Lily) and I figured who better than Pongpong to be the hyper cheerful Bubbles.
