8/365- Robot Wars- Bender vs Sentinel

I know this may come as a surprise, I do actually collect some other off the wall stuff other than anime figures, dolls and Joker stuff. Futurama is one of my favorite American tv shows and I have always been disappointed with the lack of merchandise from it, so I could not resist the lure of a metal wind-up Bender when I seen one at my semi-local Newbury Comics a while back. I am not an overly big fan of the Matrix, I haven’t even seen all of the films but I rather liked the looks of the Sentinel figure so I picked it up years ago at Suncoast (if anyone out there even remembers them). I have had the two of them posed together, with the Sentinel ready to dismember Bender ever since I brought Bender home with me it just seemed to work so perfectly.

7/365- Pastel Blythes

Another doll picture of the day but this this of the blythes. I had plans to photograph a specific anime figure today but my long awaited Simply blythe twins arrived. I had genuinely feared that they had become lost in the mail, as they were coming via SAL from Japan and had taken well over a month to arrive. Since I don’t photograph the blythes nearly as much as the pullips, I decided that today’s picture would be of the newly arrivals. My MLC (My Little Candy) Pixie Styx managed to sneak her way into the photo as she just seemed to fit right in with the two new arrivals.

6/365- Shakugan No Shana- Kotobukiya- Shana

I wasn’t really sure what I was going to photograph today, then I got a phone call from a friend of mine this morning who happens to be a huge Shakugan no Shana fan. I decided today’s photo would be of one of my Shana figures and that it would be dedicated to him (xovian). Compared to xovian I don’t have many Shana figures: I have both versions of the figmas, Pinky Street and nendoroids, the petit nendoroid that came with the OVA, an Amiami exclusive waitress version of Shana, this figure of Shana, the Shana & Kazumi figure and the one pictured.

I bought this figure on impulse a while ago basically because I felt I needed more Shana figures, especially dark haired ones as at that point other than my matched pairs of nendoroids, Pinky Street and figmas I had two of figures of her with “flame haze” hair but no other figures of her with dark hair. In general, I have noticed I am more drawn to the figures of Shana outside of her school uniform.

5/365- Lost in Wonderland

I kind of already broke my promise about no repeating items as Another Alice was a part of yesterday’s photo too but because this picture is used in an entirely different context, I am going to let it slide. I am somewhat addicted to Alice in Wonderland, I have four (well five now) pullips based on different interpretations of Alice and several other characters from the book represented in doll form.

I decided to do a slightly different take on the standard shot of Another Alice in the promo photos. I kind of ran into a problem because I lack normal playing cards, I have tons of anime playing cards and Hello Kitty playing cards but nothing that seemed to suit my purposes so I ended up using a pack from my Dark Knight Joker Poker set.

March Pullip Releases Officially Announced

March’s releases were officially announced this morning, it’s kind of anti-climatic as they were leaked earlier in the month by a European company that sells pullips. All three releases are collaborations, the pullip is based off of another character portrayed by Audrey Hepburn this time the title character of Sabrina, the dal is based off of the Disney classic Pinocchio and the byul is based off of the Disney classic Dumbo.

Sabrina is pretty but perhaps a bit too close to Princess Ann for my liking. I can not get over Jun Planning/Groove Inc’s fascination with Audrey Hepburn, her proportions are perfect for pullip but do we really need three pullips based off of her? She does actually come with two full outfits like Princess Ann did.

I am not very excited about Pinocchio, she has a lovely tan skin tone but I am not fan of her face up. I am not sure what dal’s fascination is with cross-dressing.

It’s a bad sign when the thing I am most excited about for the month’s release announcements is the byul’s stock. I loved the movie when I was a kid so of course I will need the Dumbo stock for one of my pullips/dals, I will not be going to the dark side and actually buying a byul though.

All in all, I am a bit disappointed with the March releases mainly because my birthday is in March and I was hoping for more exciting releases.

Arrival- Naomi Pullip

Naomi came yesterday, Edge arrived before her even though Edge was purchased later and they came from the same website Pullipstyle – one of the many, many reasons I hate Fed Ex. Naomi is supposed to be a member of a Visual Kei band, I am not overly familiar with Visual Kei bands but if the ones I seen in concert at Anime Boston were any type of indication of the style I am not particularly a fan ^^;

Naomi herself is actually rather lovely. She has a bold face up and while she does glitter eye make up it is not over the top like Venus’. The unmatched eyebrows are the only slight detraction from her beauty, her light eyebrows kind of detract from the overall effect but she is still really lovely. She is the perfect rock star, she definitely has the stage presence. I decided to name my little rock and roll goddess, Valhalla.

Day 4/365- New arrivals

There were a lot of new arrivals today/yesterday so I decided to do a group photo of them for today’s picture. Yesterday’s arrivals were Naomi pullip from Pullipstyle and Pinky Streets from HLJ. Today’s new arrivals were Another Alice, Another King, Another Clock Rabbit and Tantus from the Valley of the Dolls sale and Arianna who I bought back from Papermoonpixie (I previously traded Arianna to her towards custom work but missed her).

Not the best picture for today as lighting was hell (and this is the sunniest day we have had all week). Most of the new doll arrivals were so unexpected so most of them are unnamed as of yet. I don’t know which of my new arrivals to play with first…

Arrival- Edge Dal

I guess I can officially announce that she has arrive now seeing how I already used one of the pictures I took of her for today’s picture for my 365 day project. Pullipstyle’s quick shipping never ceases to amaze me.. Edge was ordered early Saturday morning and came with Monday’s mail. I neglected to preorder Edge, her wig was just so off-putting to me (I do have a wig set aside for her but the stock wig is growing on me) but I decided to order her after I got shipping notification for Naomi (who has still yet to arrive- Fed Ex!).

I was not originally sure what I was going to name her, I decided all dals (except customs) would have alcohol names this year (they could keep their stock name for collab dolls, etc). Then I took a picture of her getting ready to smash something with her guitar and decided that wow she has a very sour personality and her name became Whiskey Sour.

My impressions of her so far other than my extreme dislike of her stock wig, is that her stock is decent quality but odd. One side of her shirt outgrowths (?) is longer than the other, I also find myself wishing the top of the outfit was a bit more covering it seems to be kind of an awkward length on her. At first I was kind of impressed by her boots until I realized they are Rida’s boot again just dressed up a bit. I was truly impressed that she actually came with three tiny guitar picks. I bought a replacement wig for her but I am trying to give the stock wig a chance ^^;

3/365- Edge Dal

Today’s photography subject is my new Edge dal, Whiskey Sour (more on her later). I was trying to be a bit more varied in my photos and not do another doll so soon but I was photographing her anyway….

I decided she would be today’s photo subject because she just arrived yesterday. She is supposed to be a Visual Kei star apparently and well what is any type of rock star without hoards of fans, going nuts at their concert. The background I used for this photo, I have used a lot as it always makes me think rock star. It is not actually a traditional backdrop but rather my favorite hoody (I do not dress subtley, I guess one could say).

Day 2/365- GSC Mikuru Nendoroid

Day 2 was a lot more complicated than Day 1 believe it or not. It rained all day and I have been experiencing computer/network issues, I need to rebuild my computer don’t have the time so I am on the secondary laptop for now. I also decided today was the day I was going to completely rearrange things in the apartment but while I started off strong I soon lost focus and now everything is in a general state of chaos. But I still managed to get a picture today so that has to be a good sign, right?

My second photography subject is the Mikuru nendoroid from Melancholy of Suzumiya. I adore everything about Mikuru, something about her character design and personality just does it for me. I have never actually sat down and watched all of Melancholy of Suzumiya, I just haven’t had much time to watch anime in general lately (the last time I sat down and binge-watched any anime was almost two years ago as opposed to my old nearly nightly rituals).

It took me forever to get this damned figure, I finally bought her off of Yahoo Japan. I had bought her from Anime-Xing (I think their site is now off-line) originally but apparently they decided to just take my money and run as although I ordered and paid for her and three other figures they never sent me anything, even after I emailed them repeatedly. I actually got a few emails back from who I am assuming was the owner that were extremely rude, basically like how dare I ask for my figures that I purchased way back in June when it is only December! Maybe I was a bit impatient but in stock items normally don’t take six months to ship, or at least not at any of the other shops I have ever used.
