Groove made a very exciting announcement via their blog about a new pair of dolls to be released based on the Grimm’s fairy tale characters Hansel and Gretel. In the Grimm’s fairy tale brother and sister duo Hansel and Gretel are left abandoned in the woods where they find a witch who lives in a gingerbread house, they manage to defeat the witch once they had found out her intention to kill/eat them. Hansel and Gretel are a brother and sister duo just like Isul and Pullip so I think this is a very cute idea to do an Isul and Pullip set based on the characters.
The dolls are both original designs by Ars Gratia Artis, lately it seems like we have been seeing a lot of collaborations so it is great to see some original designs again especially when they look this great! The dolls are to be sold separately for 18000 yen each and are to be released in April in Japan (May here in the US).
Pullip Gretel is a wonderfully whimsical release.
Pullip Gretel reminds me of an updated version of the beloved classic Pullip release Greggia who was released way back in 2005. I can’t get over the resemblance with the dark green eyes, the brown wig and the lip color. She seems to capture a bit of the charm that the older Pullip releases have. I’d also really to do a comparison between Pullip Meg and Gretel once she is released.
She’s got a really great face up! It’s very nicely detailed and I especially love her delicate little eyebrows and her lip color. She seems to have an air of innocence about her, she is very fresh faced.
The dress hiding underneath the rest of the outfit is quite sweet! Without the apron on the dress looks like it would be versatile especially in a mori style wardrobe. I also really love her floral pattern tights.
Isul Hansel is quite nice looking as well! Honestly both of the pair are so well done, I’m not sure I could pick a favorite between the two.
I love the mix of textiles and patterns in his stock outfit, the color palette is subdued enough to keep it from looking too busy. The vest is a really interesting piece and the hat is a really great accessory though it unfortunately looks like it may contain a real feather.
Hansel has a bit more of a dramatic face up than his sister, I think it suits him wonderfully though. His eyebrows are similarly styled to his sister’s.
Verdict: These two can’t go up for preorder soon enough! I love both of them, I feel like they are both really wonderful releases and I can’t wait to add them to my collection.
