Groove still hasn’t made an official announcement about the release date of the Sailor Moon Pullip but preorders for Sailor Moon have been opened on Bandai’s official shop website. She has a MSRP of 16000 yen and is set for a July release. Please note she is not exclusive to Bandai, they seem to be in charge of merchandise licensing for Sailor Moon so as part of the arrangement to do a collaboration with Pullip they probably just got the right to be the first ones to list her for preorder. I’m sure she’ll be up for preorder everywhere within the week or so.
This is a great year for Sailor Moon fans, the old anime just started streaming on Hulu and the new anime is set to start airing later this year and we are getting a veritable flood of new merchandise including the hotly anticipated Sailor Moon Pullip.
If you do preorder via Bandai, you get a small plush Luna as a preorder bonus gift. Luna is extremely adorable and looks well-made but I think I’ll wait as Bandai doesn’t seem to ship internationally and going through a shopping service just so I can get a tiny Luna plush seems a tad excessive.
I am admittedly not the biggest fan of the material they chose to make Sailor Moon’s outfit out of but I’m impressed with the overall attention to detail they put into making her an accurate portrayal of the character.
It also looks like they have put some effort into fixing the wig, it looked a bit suspect in an early leaked photo of the prototype seen here.
Sailor Moon comes with her Moon Stick as an accessory. In the old anime she received the Moon Stick from Luna around episode 25 but didn’t get the Silver Crystal in it until about 10 episodes later. Since she really only used the wand in the first season it can be deduced that her Pullip is based off of her appearance from some time between episodes 35-46. It can also be deduced that I used to be a huge fan of Sailor Moon, the first season was my favorite too so I know it well.
I’m kind of curious if Bandai/Groove will eventually release like upgrade kits in the form of outfit sets for later forms of the iconic sailor suit with their respective wands. A Princess Serenity outfit set would be divine or the Eternal Sailor Moon costume so many tantalizing possibilities.
I love her face up, at first I was worried it might be a bit too plain but it does suit her nicely and she is only supposed to be a 14 year old girl after all so it wouldn’t make too much sense for her to be overly made up.
Needless to say I’m very excited about this release and will definitely be adding her and mostly like any other future Sailor Senshi to my crew. Now if you’ll excuse me I’ve got some old-school Sailor Moon to watch on Hulu.
