Acquistion- Fate Stay/ Night- Saber and Illyavasal Wonder Festival Exclusive Figures by Alter

I had seen these figures pop up online before and was interested because I ❤ Illya, she is my favorite Fate character and this seems to be a more adult version of her compared to the other releases. The Saber also interested me as I did not have a Fate/ Zero Saber. This set was a Wonder Fest exclusive and was limited to 2500.  Here’s the original promotional flyer..

 
I must admit I was not sure how large these would be.. I thought they would be gashapon sized but they actually appear to be about 1/10th scale. Despite their small size the quality on them is rather nice. In person I find myself slightly preferring the Saber figure over the Illya, the pose on the Saber I think is what intrigues me it seems a lot more real than Illya’s pose.

Acquistion- B & W Joker by DC Direct

I am just going to ignore the pile of new anime stuff/ dolls that came into the mail yesterday and concentrate on my newest acquisition that I bought out in town last night: Black and White Joker figure by DC Direct.

So anyway, the Joker figure is part of the Batman: Black and White figures line from DC Direct. He is somewhat unique because he is the only one in the line released so far that is not Batman. Of course I don’t think they could have picked a better villian as a subject for the first non-Batman figure but I digress. He is based on Jim Lee’s Joker during the Hush storyline… I actually like the Hust storyline well not so much the first arc but Heart of Hush now that showed some promise (and of course Payback because Joker using homing pidgeons for evil plots is utter win). Jim Lee’s Joker is a bit of an extreme Joker, a bit cartoony and perhaps a bit over the top. I prefer a slightly less cartoon-ish Joker would rather like one based on  Bermejo’s artwork or more figures based on Tim Sale’s artwork. The black and whte kind of limits it ironically  but I still feel it is a pretty solid interpretation of Joker even if  this particular iteration isn’t a fan favorite 😛

First Look-September Dal and Taeyang

Only the dal and taeyang have been announced so far, no sign of the pullip (maybe no pullip for September?). I have seen the dal and taeyang prototypes around a lot so their announcement didn’t really surprise just a slight bit of relief that girl ciel isn’t crazy limited, what kind of bothers me as I none of the pullip prototypes look finished enough to be announced as September’s release hmmm.

Girl Ciel (Robin version)

I am actually rather excited about her/him (it’s a girl doll cosplaying a boy character that happens to be crossdressing so I am a bit torn on how to refer to it). I actually like this one more than the other version of  Ciel maybe it is because I am not very familiar with the anime. I will be getting him/her and make it a female twin to my current Ciel they will make very creepy looking boy/girl twins.

Sebastion Demon Version

Not such a big fan of taeyangs in general but I might just preorder him. I rather like my normal version of Sebastion and a demonic looking version sounds promising…I do rather like him but I think the deciding factor as to whether or not I preorder him will be  if the pullip ends up being a collab or not.

New Acquistion- Vixen

I apologize for another doll post so quick on the heels of the last one but Vixen arrived astonishingly quick from Japan. Although she came via airmail she only took five days to arrive O_O.

I had been thinking about getting another Carol for a while, she seems to be such an underappreciated pullip in the doll community plus the type 1s always seemed to have a special quality about them to me (I like the shine, reminds me of blythes ^^; ). She has a bit of a melancholy feel about her, her eyebrows make her seem quite sad but I think it gives her a bit of character.  Her stock is absolutely ridiculous which doesn’t help her case any. I think I may rewig her although I am not quite sure what I will be rewigging her in just yet.

Some thoughts on Emperor Joker

I just read Emperor Joker. It was a pretty good read even if I felt a bit over my head in all the Superman mythos (while I love DC, I am more of a Batman girl and have very little knowledge about Superman most of which comes from him appearing in Batman comics). I actually enjoyed it  quite a bit I literally laughed out loud at a few panels such as Joker playing poker with the three Robins in various stages of decay (why didn’t you call in ? ROFL).

Besides being slightly out of my depth the entire Joker x Lois Lane thing seemed a bit tacked on to me while I am biased towards Joker x Harley Quinn it just didn’t seem very Joker-like it seemed out of character for him. I am willing to buy off on him turning Harley Quinn into a constellation though, I am of the mind that while he can’t really love anyone (besides himself) he does seem to have a certain fondness and affection for her. He couldn’t let her live but with him essentially being a performer he still needed an audience and there has never been a more eager audience than Harley Quinn. I thought Harley Quinn was very much in character throughout the comic.

New Acquistion: Button

While I didn’t intend to post again about dolls so soon I am making an earnest attempt to get stuff blogged as soon as it arrives and well another doll arrived today ^^;

Yep, it’s another Papin. She is my eighth Papin, I had previously had the goal of collecting seven and to have them all rewigged in different colors of the rainbow but it appears the fates have alligned for me to become the adoptive home for all underloved Papins (ie. there is already a ninth on the way ^^; ). This one was particurily heart breaking as she was about to be sold as custom bait due to extremely slight damage to her nose (I sanded the rough spots and evened it out) so I caved and adopted her. She came with a really cool custom earring and I decided to rewig her in a short orange bob wig I had around even though I already have an orange haired Papin (the infamous Clementine) my plan is to eventually rewig her in a white fur wig *stares at pile of white fur in her sewing pile* I swear I will get to it eventually besides this wig is growing on me.  
 
I decided to name her Button. I have always wanted to name a pullip Button, she has a button on her earring and she has a cute button nose now.

Pinky Street

I came to the realization the other day that there hasn’t been any announcements of new releases since the last batch went up for sale in January. I also realized I haven’t bought any except the newest batch this year. I have over 100 pinky street and am 10 away from owning all of them but the ones I need pop up some seldomly these days I just haven’t been able to find them recently. 

Worse yet all but Puchi are currently packed away in a huge box . My intention was I was going to move their display but I have had my hands so full recently that rummaging around in a box of 100+ pinky street and trying to match them all up is not something I have the time or energy for. Finding a suitable place not already  in use large enough to display them all in the apartment is another problem. I think I will actually try and organize them all tomorrow maybe set them up on the lower shelves on the same shelving unit that  currently houses my comics.

New Acquisition-Nyx

Nyx arrived on Friday, she was hand delivered by the extremely talented doll customizer requiemart . Nyx is an OOAK custom done just for me, thus fulfulling another chit on my pullip goals (have a custom made just for me as opposed to buying a premade custom like I normally do). She was originally a Raphia that I had tried customizing but was unhappy with the results of, Requiem took her home with her and customized her for me. She is partially inspired by pullip Noir and an unproduced prototype (the one on the cover of the pullip mook). She has a lip piercing like Noir’s but on the opposite side, she also has bichromatic eyes like Noir albiet different colors (Noir has blue and brown, Nyx has purple and brown). She is kind of what Bianca should have been.


My intial plan was to have her be Azreal’s rival, in my epic plan to have a massive battle between dante’s inferno style demons and the forgotten mythological gods of old (Nyx is the grecian goddess of night for those not in the know). She was also supposed to have green hair but I stuck her in a spare purple fur wig and now it seems she maybe becoming my Cheshire cat >_<

New Acquisition- Rei Maid figure by Kotobukiya

I had enough CDJapan points, codes and coupons to make acquiring this one internationally worthwhile versus waitingfor the American release.

Evangelion will always hold a special place in my heart even though I no longer really care for the anime- I have seen it so many it times it has lost all meaning although the new movies are revitalizing my interest a bit I must admit. I am especially fond of Asuka, but I am not one to break up a pair if they release corresponding figures of Rei and Asuka.

Even being an Asuka fan, I do have to admit this is a damn fine Rei. Even if there was not a corresponding Asuka figure to this one I probably would have picked it up. Bonus points  for this release too as it is in the same outfit as the Dollfie Dream releases …. must stay on topic.. This figure seems to exude an aura of calm tranquility.

While Kotobukiya is generally considered to be one of the lesser figure companies as in not on par with Alter for example, I feel this was a fairly solid release and would reccommend her to any Rei fans out there.


And no that is not a strange imperfection on her chest it was still slightly drizzling when I took her outside for photos the other day when she arrived.
