Re-ment is the new crack

First off, re-ment are small miniatures that come in blind boxes (except the furniture) made by a Japanese company that are for the most part the perfect size for pullips. I had done well to resist the re-ment temptation but appears the forces had aligned against me when Shana of pullipstyle included a free re-ment in with August’s pullip preorders because of the delays. Then I started looking it up online and I fell head over heels in love with a strawberry television that came with in one of the sets. I could not find anyone selling the full set and I was not about to buy blind boxes online so I ran a search in my local area on the US rement site and there just happened to be a store in Olde Mystic Village that sold re-ment :D.

I have to go back to that store soon, as they had a nice selection of re-ment and a few other interesting items I will get to in a moment. I ended up buying the brown cabinet and two blind boxes of the Strawberry set. I lucked out and got my lust item the strawberry tv and the picnic basket set from the blind boxes.
This is one of my Papin’s bedroom
Eureka
I wanted Eureka (Papin the 3rd) to be a bit more sweet than my other two Papins so I made her a room with lots of pink and strawberries. She is the reason I went on the hunt, as soon as seen that tv it just clicked that it would be absolutely perfect for her room.
Here is the small dining room I made after I got home…
Strawberry Daifuku
Little Strawberry Daifuku (Hina Ichigo dal 2.0) is quite at home with the new re-ment cabinet and all of the lovely re-ment goodies on her table.

The store Hammon’s House also had a few blythes and after seeing them in person I have to admit Roaring Red is kind of tempting, they really got my hopes up when I seen handmade earrings with pictures of blythes on them but sadly they did not have any with pullips.

And yes I have six bookcases where basically all the shelves are designed to look like different rooms for the pullips including three living rooms, four bedrooms, a patio (with jacuzzi), a kitchen, a pirate room, a sushi bar, a genie room and a bathroom and a small dining room that share a shelf. I have about 100 of them spread out over the shelves with about 60 or so in the actual rooms while the others are displayed on the tops of the bookcases. the other 19 are either in the living room as part of my Rozen Maiden display or in the hall as part of my literary characters/ I am out of room in the computer nook display.

In other pullip news, I have three pullips on their way to me. I am still waiting on Suiseiseki who I actually ordered a while ago but the other two I bought over the weekend. First I responded to a post about a bait Chicca, after seeing pictures and talking to the seller I realized that the only reason she was considered bait was because she was bald. So I bought a bald Chicca for $30 plus shipping, I already bought her a fur wig that matches her eye color perfectly and even after I am still at a total cost of under $50. It turns out I knew the seller from around the various pullip forums, she stood out because she was always really nice.

I also managed to acquire a semi-grail of mine. She is not rare or hard to come by, but I really wanted her specifically and no other would do. When I first started collecting pullips one collector Yuffie had always stood out to me her girls were always so unique. She decided to stop collecting and put up all her girls for sale, I adopted her Chill (now known as Helena), Another Alice and one of her Papins (now my Clementine who is incidentally my favorite pullip). Yuffie actually had Papin twins up for sale and I had always regretted not buying the both of them. Another collector ended up buying her so fast forward ten months to now when the new owner put her up for feelers. I contacted her immediately and suffice it to say Clementine will be reunited with her twin finally. So now I will have Qua-Pap (ie. Papin quadruplets), oddly enough this one has turned out to be the most expensive of the four but it is all good as she is coming preobitsued and rewigged.

I swear this will be the last pullip related post until I get Jouet ^_-

Then take a right unto Pinky Street

What’s not to love about pinky street figures? They are cute, they don’t take up much space (*cough* I’m looking at you pullips) and for the most part very cheap.

My Melody & Kuromi Pinkies

I got started collecting Pinky Street sometime between 2004-2005 while I was vacationing in California. Someone bought me the Rei and Asuka Pinky Cos set which I adored but I kind of forgot all about them until I went to Anime Boston the next year. I bought a handful more at Anime Boston but didn’t really get hooked until I found out that there was a limited Gunslinger Girl Pinky Street. I love Gunslinger Girl so I just had to have Henrietta even though she ended up costing me well over $100.

Sometime after getting Henrietta I decided to very slowly start collecting all of the Pinky Streets. I currently have over 80 pinkies with a handful of doubles and a custom O-ren Ishii pinky. I am slowly but surely getting them all. I still need 24 to have a complete set not including the Dekapins which are the 12 inch Anime Expo exclusives that came out way back in 2004. I still need PK001B, PK002A, PK002B, PK003B, PK004A, PK004B, PK005B, PK006, PK006A, PK006B, Animate Tencho Yoshiko Version 1, Acchi Kocchi Kokoro, Pinky Showtime Volume 1 Green Version, Pinky Street in Town Hana, Mono Comme Ca M Version, Mono Comme Ca MCC Version, Mono Comme Ca Version 2, King of Fighters Mai And Athena Limited Blue Repaint, Pinky Q with Messerschmitt Repaint, Space Invaders: Moe, Suu and Tamae. I also currently have some in the mail including PK003A, Wonder Fest Pinky – 0001 Showtime Pinky, Pinky Street with Rabbit Scooter Repaint, Pinky Street Mahorobo Stories Library of Fortune Pinky, and the Wonder Fest Kokoro from a few years ago.

Blast Off it's party time

This is my Hobby Angel figure, which I was led to believe was a Hobby Japan exclusive (although it seems to be available at inordinate amount of stores for that). I had seen her at a convention previously and was wowed by her but the seller wanted a ridiculous amount that I could not justify (I remembered that they wanted over $150 but I don’t remember the exact amount). I had kind of forgotten about her until I seen her pop up in a clearance sale recently. Not only did I buy the last one they had in stock but I only ended up paying about $40 shipped from her from Play-asia.

So she is part girl and part plane. She has a character design by the guy that does Sgt. Frog and I have to admit I am normally not a fan of his art style but I adore it on this figure. I do love the colors it adds a nice industrial touch to the figure over and above the plane parts attached to her. The plane parts are so delicately interweaved with the figure giving her a cute but powerful look. Especially with the pose it almost feels like she is going to blast off the shelf. The sculpt is amazing with an equal amount of detail on the girl herself and her plane parts.

Out of Proportion

Just so you know is not all sunshine and rainbows here. I have yet to find a Kallen figure I am satisfied with. I have this one made by Bandai and the B-club polystone of her. I never picked up the alter version so that one may be standable in person.

This Kallen figure bothers me a lot. First off, her thighs appear to as thick if not thicker than her waist. Second her breasts appear to be just about as large as her head. The face sculpt is not very flattering. The colors are nice. The pose is just bizarre, it makes no sense at all… it looks like she is getting ready to perform some odd dance move rather than attack. I guess the only redeeming point is that I got it dirt cheap and didn’t pay MSRP for it.

Excuses, excuses and a very odd pose

Well first off let me explain why there was not a post for yesterday, I went to a pullip meet and I lost my camera while there. I am pretty well devastated by the loss of my camera. I will be unable to take new pictures until my camera can be replaced in October. I will be using pictures I already took before I lost the camera for the next few weeks.

My Kotobukiya Kureha figure which I got a few months back from Toyslogic. I already had the Max Factory Kureha figure but I couldn’t resist this one either especially since toys had it for around $40. I actually have a third version of Kureha preordered as well namely the President Japan version.

I just love Kureha’s character design and the use of the bright yellow color on her costume, it really makes her stand out and pop when standing next to other figures on the shelf. She just seems to give off such an aura of serenity. This particular figure’s pose is a bit odd, but when I think about it I don’t think it is the pose so much as it the overpowering sleeves on her outfit. The sleeves do really add a sense of movement to the figure and a bit of added depth so it is a bit of a double edged sword. Her face, especially are lovely. Her hair is also very detailed and has a nice sense of flow to it unlike some other figures where you get the sense that the hair is defying gravity/physics. The sculpting and the details on this figure are immaculate.

I seem to recall having slight troubles getting her to actually hold her bow but it wasn’t anything major like it is with some of my other figures.

Odd anime hair styles

The other Da Capo 2 figure I picked up from the BBTS clearance sale. Her name is Koko Tsukishima, I prefer the other figure to her but she is still pretty darn cute.

From what I understand Koko is actually the main character of Da Capo II. The thing that bothers me about her character design most is her hair, the little side ponytail just bothers me and it is rendered perfectly in the figure unfortunately. I know it seems to complain about an odd hairstyle when so many hair colors have psychodelic hair colors and beyond strange hairstyles but this one just bothers me. The colors are still great and the sculpt is very nicely done but this one just doesn’t seem as vivid and alive to me as the other one. I do love the stockings on this figure though.

Wicked

Not really the post I meant to do for today but my camera spent most of the day hiding. Then once I actually found it the batteries died after the first photo project I did which happened to be more pullips.

I had literally just finished reading Wicked the day before I spotted this on ebay. I had really enjoyed the book so it really peaked my interest. I suspected that it was a Requiemart custom ( http://www.requiemart.com) but I wasn’t positive. I ended up putting a low bid on her and no one bid against me so I won. I was even more surprised by how cheap I got her when I spoke to Requiem and she told me how much the seller had actually paid for her in the first place O_O .
Elphaba Custom Pullip
Elphaba was originally a Rovam pullip she now has a full body repaint, padded out body and a custom face up/wig. It seems odd in hindsight to choose to customize a Rovam as she is quite pricey now but back when the custom was done she was still widely available and cheap.

The full body repaint is pretty much flawless, she does have a small chip on her nose which I could have fixed but it is so tiny I am not even that worried about it. The paint is very smooth and the coloring is consistant and unlike Jun Planning Requiem actually took the time to paint the parts of Elphaba covered by her clothing. I wish the seller had included the stock Requiem had made but she did gave me an approximation of it, I still need to make a cape I suppose. I really love because she just stands out so much and is very unique.

Twin Shot
Here is a side by side shot of Elphaba and a stock Rovam (my Roxie) to illustrate how far Requiem took Elphaba.

Devilishy cute

You know, I never watched Da Capo or Da Capo II but I spotted this figure and another on a clearance sale recently and decided to pick them both up. At about $15 each they were too cute to resist, this figure is my favorite of the two. Not to say the other one is not cute, it’s just this one has a devilish charm about her. I also had no idea how old this figure was before I bought it I was a bit surprised to find out she is just under two years old.

Just looking at her makes me smile, she is too cute with her tongue sticking out. I love her character design and the colors on this figure just turned out so vibrant. She actually gives off a light and airy feel because of the bright colors. The sculpt is pretty nice, the skirt is particularly interesting as the pleats were sculpted beautifully. Her eye is tad large but I love the way they designed it. The prototype pictures don’t even do her justice. If I had seen this figure in person before I probably would have gladly shelled out the $45 or so she normally costs.

Maid fetish

So I never really watched much of the He is my Master anime but I am really fond of the show and the character designs plus it is Gainax and Gainax shows are like crack to me. I have a particular soft spot for the much abused Izumi.

Lately I have had an overpowering need to buy every He is my Master figure I can get my hands on. This one took me a while to track down as she is a Hobby Japan limited. I was a bit disappointed in her size when she arrived then again the sizes for He is My Master figures vary greatly but this Izumi really looks kind of diminutive. Her size is really my only complaint though (her pose is a tad awkward but I will forgive that). The paint job is nice and the sculpt is lovely.

Straight shooter

So this is the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann Yoko Sniper Look Ver. 1/8 PVC figure by WAVE, she is an exclusive from this summer’s wonder fest and limited to 1000. She came without warning in the mail today.

I love all of the different Yoko figures but this is the only one that is really cute to the point where you go aww nevermind the fact that she has a sniper rifle. Her color’s are just so vibrant and the sculpt is very well done. Her pose is a bit odd but it works. I don’t really have any complaints about this figure I don’t think I could be happier with her.
