22/365- Cardcaptor Sakura- Sakura Sega Prize

Today’s picture is of a Cardcaptor Sakura figure. I wish there were better figures of Sakura but sadly while there were a lot of figures of her most of them were prize figures. My local comic book shop actually got this one in stock but I happened to be in the store with a friend of mine and he spotted it before me and snatched it up for his wife, his wife and I had a bit of a history as we had previously bumped heads a few times on ebay bidding against each other on CCS items (haha I got the Tomoyo doll). I tried unsuccessfully to talk him into letting me have the figure but he wouldn’t be swayed 😦 . I was kind of annoyed with him at the time until I got home and ordered my own, she arrived a few days later.

She’s a pretty cute figure but the plastic they used to make her was kind of cheap so she is really shiny 😦

21/365- Rozen Maiden- Shinku- GSC

I have such a love/hate relationship with New England it’s where I grew up so I don’t really want to move but at the same time photographic chances are minimal during the year. Right now during the winter it gets dark extremely early like four in the afternoon, like before I even get out of work early. Most of the year, everything outside is kind of brown and dying nothing stays green for very long outside of the spring/summer. Today’s picture of the day seems to contradict my earlier statements about New England, but don’t believe the picture it’s a trick.

Seeing how outside photography is not always available throughout the year because of the aforementioned dreary weather and my lack of motivation to go outside when it is only in the teens, I have started to experiment with doing more indoor photography again. I didn’t really like the plain white backgrounds as it is too plain for my tastes, I do like to use patterned/textured backgrounds. I either use fabric or wrapping paper or in a few cases some of my actual clothes as backdrops (yesterday’s picture of Kureha actually used a dress of mine as a backdrop and the pink/black leopard print is actually a hoody of mine). Today’s picture was a new experiment, I used an older photo that I had taken of the local rose garden during the summer as the backdrop. The idea of using pictures themselves as a backdrop occurred to me late last night while I was digging through my many gigs of photos and noticing how many pictures I had taken of various places while I was out shooting dollfies etc. this picture for example was from when I took the Rozen Maiden pullips to the rose garden. I am fairly happy with the photographic result so I will probably use this method again when I think of images that would fit certain figures.

The figure I chose for today is Good Smile Company’s Shinku of Rozen Maiden. I love Rozen Maiden, it is one of my favorite animes it actually got me back into watching anime a few years ago after I had gone on a hiatus for a while. This is favorite figure of Shinku, I couldn’t think of a better figure for this experiment when I seen the photo of the rose garden again last night.

20/365- Shining Wind- Kureha by Kotobukiya

Today’s picture is of Kureha from Shining Wind by Kotobukiya. I am not a big fan of the Shining Wind/Tears franchise but I love their character designs, especially Kureha’s design. I love the elegance of her character design. I actually like Kureha so much I have all three of the full-sized figures of her and I am currently awaiting the nendoroid of her (once TL actually ships my package anyway ^^;). The pose on this particular figure of Kureha is kind of awkward but I love the sense of movement, the paint job on this figure could be a little better but I still love it.

If they ever did decide to make a dollfie dream of her, it would be so incredibly epic I think I would simply have to own it.

19/365- I am Jack’s frustration aka. Joker

I am Jack’s unparalleled level of frustration right now, I spent the better part of six hours today trying to upload photos I took of my new Richt taeyang so I could work on an article for a magazine. Apparently I somehow managed to partially fry my memory card so now all the pictures I took today are forever trapped on the offending memory card. The timing for this fiasco couldn’t have been worse. Now that I know what the problem is I will buy a replacement memory card tomorrow, I had to jack one from my PS3 for tonight’s picture.

My original plan was to use a picture of Elise (my rewigged Another Alice pullip) for today’s picture, I took a very elaborate photo of her that took me forever to set up but it was worth it because I loved the photo so much only now it is stuck forever on an unreadable memory card *grumble*. Once I figured out the problem was the memory card and not the memory card readers or the camera, it was too late for me to try and reset up the picture of Elise so I went to the complete opposite end of the spectrum. Tonight’s picture is of DC Direct’s Black & White Joker figure. Based on Jim Lee’s eccentric interpretation of the Joker this one is a bit of over the top for my tastes, as well the design is so over the top you could never believe that the Joker was once sane.

Arrival- Another Alice- Elise

I think it is safe to say I am addicted to Alice in Wonderland. When VOTD had a OOB broken Another Alice my interest was immediately peaked, the only potential deal breaker was the broken part as the another series does not have any known body matches but requiemart assured me that she was working on it and eventually she would find a body match (for now she is borrowing an arm from my Another Queen) so I took the chance and bought her. I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with her once I got her, on the one hand she was an Alice doll so I was somewhat tempted to keep her as an Alice but on the other hand I already have four pullips based on different interpretations of Alice (Alice, Eris, Allison & Malice). I decided to try and an unused bright red wig on her and all the pieces just seemed to fall into place. I was kind of surprised how well the red wig seems to suit her.

Her name is Elise and while she is Alice inspired, she isn’t strictly speaking an Alice. The dress she is wearing was made by Angelberries, a wonderful pullip seamstress from across the pond who also happens to be a friend of mine. I never quite imagined taking her in the direction that I did but I am extremely pleased with her and her current look.

18/365- Santa Asuka

I woke up this morning and was somewhat surprised to find a good four inches or so of snow on the ground, I mean it’s December and I live in New England so I shouldn’t be surprised but I wasn’t expecting it all. I am just now coming to realization that Christmas is barely over two weeks away and that I had better start shopping soon. To put myself in the holiday spirit I decided the subject of today’s photo would be Santa Asuka from Evangelion by Amie Grand. If memory serves I actually bought this off of ebay years ago from someone I knew on Pinky Street forum for pretty cheap maybe around $25 or less. Besides being one of the few holiday figures I own, it’s kind of an interesting figure because it comes with a bunch of different option parts so it is pretty versatile.

17/365- Fate T Hawlaown

Day 17’s picture is of my newly acquired Fate T Hawlaown. I just loved how pose looked from behind I couldn’t resist snapping a shot, I especially like how the shadows seem to emphasis her bum. I don’t have many figures in general from this show because I don’t watch it but something about Fate’s character design just seems to keep drawing me to her figures.

Arrival- Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha- 1/4 Fate T Hawlaown Figure & Fate/Stay Night- Sakura Figure

I almost died of shock last night when there was a ring at the doorbell at it was Fed Ex :O. My package from HLJ apparently made it through Fed Ex’s system in record time. I ordered both items during HLJ’s black Friday special last week, the special was basically to encourage people to switch paypal billing agreements.. if you bought an item from their specially selected sale items you got free ems/express shipping (the kicker was everything in that order of in stock items would qualify for the free shipping) all other items that weren’t already on sale were also 25% off.

I had a little bit of extra cash to work with this past paycheck so I studied what was in stock on HLJ and tried to decide what would really be worth it to order, considering the rather sucky conversion rate at the moment I decided to focus on larger figures and discovered at the time they still had the Magical Lyrical Girl Nanoha 1/4 Fate Figure still in stock. I had originally really wanted her and basically had already purchased Nanoha to go with her so I decided she would be my target. Then it was just a matter of going through the sale items until I found one I wanted, while they did have a few pullips on sale it still would have been cheaper to buy them off of Pullipstyle because of the conversion rate so I passed on them- plus they didn’t really have any wanted 😦 and chose the Fate/Stay Night 1/7 Sakura Figure by Griffon Enterprises mostly because I haven’t seen many owner photos of it and I rather like Sakura (plus I haven’t bought a new Fate figure in a while). Cost-wise it really wasn’t all that bad, all told it ran me just under $135 even with paypal’s lackluster conversion rate.

16/365- GSC- Henrietta Figure

I am finally home again with full internet access. Today was such a gray dreary day, today I decided to go with a fitting subject Gunslinger Girls’ Henrietta by Good Smile Company. It’s a nice little figure of Henrietta don’t get me wrong but something about this figure has always kind of bothered me, when looked at from the wrong angle Henrietta almost appears to be three or four months along (impossible in the manga/anime) or have a bit of a pot belly going on. The flaw is kind of pity because Henrietta’s sculpt and pose otherwise are very fitting in my opinion anyway. I wish there were more figures in general from Gunslinger Girls, besides the pinky street of Henrietta there hasn’t really been one that I am wholly satisfied with even the Amie Grand statue didn’t really live up to my expectations. Of course now, every time I think of Gunslinger Girls’ now I always find myself wishing that the second season had lived up to the first season ^^;

Officially affiliated

Anyone that has visited the site in the last few days has probably noticed that there is now a small advertisement for J-list in the upper right-hand corner. J-list opened up a new affiliate program called “Friends of J-list” since the program seemed very awesome and made of win plus the fact that although I haven’t been ordering from them as much as I used to back when I was single I never had any problems or complaints about them so I felt pretty good about advertising for them.

I don’t intend for this new endeavor to really change the way I blog or what it is I blog about. I will not all of a sudden become an advertising hub where all I post is links to J-list’s many different products, I might drop a link if it is relevant but I am not going to post about something I normally wouldn’t just to drop a link. I already got a somewhat joking question via email over whether this would mean more adult content on the blog, occasionally I decide I want to do a somewhat naughty figure or doll shoot but I honestly wouldn’t really hold your breath waiting as it is pretty damn rare and chances are it isn’t as naughty as what you were hoping for. I will not suddenly be reviewing adult products on this blog either, there are sites for that and this is not one of them. In all fairness I do own a Hello Kitty errm item from J-list (it was a gift from an ex-girlfriend- I do bat for both teams on occasion ^_-) and I am sure if I dug around long enough in the attic I could find it but chances of it ever actually being mentioned here again are pretty damn slim, the chances of getting a full detailed reviewed of it up on this blog of it has about a snowball’s chance in hell.

If I ultimately get a free figure or two from this project then I will be ecstatic, if I don’t then oh well it isn’t like I don’t have 100s of figures already to play with. I am not going to be heavy handed in advertising for them, the link will be there if you want to buy something you can if not it’s cool. This post is just to let people know what is currently going on here and why I am suddenly advertising for J-lost. I will end this post with some eye candy, not because I feel obligated to but because well I am continually surprised just how popular this throw away picture of a Meg figure I took for a friend of mine who was curious about her assets.
