It’s been a while since my last post in general but even longer since my last post about My Little Pony. Lately, I just can’t seem to get enough of My Little Pony particularly stuff from G4/Friendship is Magic (now that I am mostly caught up with the new G4 stuff, I can collect the older generations of pony too).
General ReleasesThanks to a help of a friend who attended SDCC, I was able to attain this year’s Hasbro exclusive who well wasn’t actually named (she was just listed as pony) but anyway it’s Derpy!
Derpy was a background character with an animation error ie. the crossed-eyes that got noticed by different pony communities and has since gone on to become extremely popular but not without controversy as some people find the name given to her by the fan community to be offensive. Personally, I think she is fairly innocuous and adorable besides, so I needed her!
Now a story of personal victory! I have been looking for the Fluttershy train car pretty much since the My Little Pony friendship train got released last year. Although I was successful in eventually attaining Sweetie Belle’s train car, somehow I never found Fluttershy’s and the price for it was like stupidly high on the secondary market so I almost gave up. I stopped at TRU on a whim yesterday and they had just finished their reset of the girl’s section and had just put out a case of the train cars including one Fluttershy train car..
Victory is mine! For the longest time the Fluttershy train car was the only G4 thing I didn’t own and it really irked me so I am glad to finally have it in my collection though now I am waiting for the larger exclusive MLP train from TRU anyway.
A new onslaught of toys is starting to be released now that we are nearing the holiday shopping season (because apparently we need to start Christmas shopping before we do our back to school shopping). A lot of the new toys are centered on the season two finale where Princess Cadance and Shining Armor get married… there has even been a wedding castle released.
Of course the wedding castle wouldn’t be complete without three flower fillies (ie. the cutie mark crusaders) or all four of the bridle friends (Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Rarity and Twilight Sparkle). For anyone wondering where Rainbow Dash and Applejack are, obviously Applejack is too busy catering the wedding for pictures and Rainbow Dash is performing her sonic rainboom somewhere off-screen.
Target has released an exclusive set of Princess Cadance and Shining Armor Fashion Style ponies. I’m very excited to see that they have finally made a fashion pony of a male character, hopefully a Big Mac won’t be too far behind.
There is also the talking Princess Cadance MLP toy, some of her phrases leave a bit to be desired ^^; .
Speaking of talking MLP, ToysRus has finally somewhat righted a wrong by releasing a show accurate white Princess Celestia. For whatever reason most Princess Celestia toys are pink when she is in fact white on the tv show.
She even has glimmery eye shadow.
New non-exclusive versions of Princess Celestia and Princess Luna fashion styles have also been recently released. Neither pony has tinsel in their hair unlike the original releases which were quite glitter-ific. Unlike the original set that was sold only as a pair via Target, the pair has not only been broken up but they are for sale basically anywhere ponies are sold.
TRU has just recently released an exclusive Favorites Collection with seven ponies including Rainbow Dash, Trixie, DJ-Pon3, Nightmare Moon, Flower Wishes, Lemony Gems and Pinkie Pie
This set is so new, I haven’t gotten around to photographing all the ponies in just yet ^^; I did photograph a few though, including Trixie who I eventually hope we see again on the show.
Flower Wishes with her blind bag counterpart
My favorite of the set is Nightmare Moon who is absolutely stunning.
She just looks so very wicked.
With her sister Princess Celestia
Last but not least my latest MLP acquisition the TRU exclusive Zecora.
In addition to rocking the coolest mohawk like ever, Zecora glows in the dark 😮
Blind Bags- Ideally Blind Bag MLP are supposed to be a surprise, you buy one not knowing who you are getting. I mean there are ways to remove the mystery aspect… you can always cheat and use the codes or go with my preferred approach the shotgun method where I just buy a whole case of the damn things to ensure a complete set.
This is the complete third wave of US blind bags (fourth overall, Hasbro is being kind of screwy with releases). I preordered a case from BBTS, I regret not preordering the other case that I needed while I was at it as it since sold out so now I have to keep watching for restocks
Sparkly version of the mane six (from left to right) Rainbow Dash, Rarity, Twilight Sparkle, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie and Applejack
Other sparkly ponies (from left to right) Merry May, Twilight Sky, Mosley Orange, Amethyst Star, Sassaflash, Chance-A-Lot, Berry Green, Minuette, Royal Riff, Peachy Sweet, Twilight Velvet, Lulamoon, Electric Sky and Crimson Gala
Special metallic versions of Rarity, Pinkie Pie and Applejack.
…and just for the hell of it, a kick-line of different Rarity releases.
Target made an exclusive rainbow themed boxed set of MLP blind bags, it featured the mane six as well as a boy pony named Emerald Ray (because none of the mane six are green and they wanted to make a rainbow).
Not to be outdone, ToysRus also has a new exclusive box set of blind bags. There are no unique ponies in this set, it is a mix of ponies from the international waves 1 and 2 of the blind bags but now they come with baffling/cute accessories like instruments .
Hasbro in a stroke of genius has started making themed story three packs of blind bags. The first three sets are Cloudsdale: Rainbow Dash, Gilda and a Wonderbolt, Royal Wedding: Twilight Sparkle, Princess Cadance & Shining Armor and Sweet Apple Acres: Applejack, Big Mac and Granny Smith.
I was really impressed with the Cloudsdale Set as they had to make a unique mold for Gilda, I mean she is really only in the one episode so the fact that she would even get acknowledgement in toy form is pretty cool for me. I also really dig the Wonderbolt.
My favorite set by far has been the Royal Wedding set, even though Applejack is my favorite character I have still neglected to debox and photograph the Apple family set ^^;
I adore Princess Cadance and Shining Armor.
Princess Cadance may just be my favorite blind bag.
Customs – I love G4 customs, especially ones that are based on earlier releases designs such as G1. To me the G1=>G4 are just like a super concentrated form of adorable. So far I have ended up with five G1=>G4 customs.
From right to left: Ringlet by Saply, Firefly & Quackers by TiellaNicole and Lemon Treats and Sugar Sweet by Hannaliten
Ringlet holds the distinction of being the only custom G1=>G4 pony that I have commissioned so far (I’m sure there will be more eventually). She was originally a Fluttershy.
Firefly was the first G1=>G4 that I purchased. Firefly was always a childhood favorite of mine.
Here G4 Firefly is with the original G1 Firefly, the G4s look so tiny compared to the G1s.
Quackers was another childhood favorite of mine, plus I utterly adore ducks so I could not resist this pony when she popped up on the Arena.
I honestly can’t recall if I owned a Lemon Treats or not as a child but I love her unusual color scheme so I pounced on her as soon as I seen her up for sale.
Sugar Sweet was originally posted up for sale alongside Lemon Treats, I had thought about purchasing the pair together originally but I decided to just buy Lemon Treats… what did I do when Lemon Treats came in the mail? I went back and bought Sugar Sweet >_< I don’t recall owning a Sugar Sweet when I was younger but I really loved her color scheme.
