All J-dolls released from 2007-2008 have the type 3 Pullip body, all J-dolls released from 2009 onward starting with Diamonte de calle come on the type 4 Pullip body.

Hi, J-dolls are more than likely a discontinued doll line so updating their information is unfortunately a low priority especially when it would require lots of research on my part ^^;. When/if I get free time I’ll look into it.

You have put in so many hours and effort on this, and I am SO grateful for your insight and dedication as a collector. I have had a problem with a number of my J-Dolls and their broken wrist Type 3 bodies, from there I consulted your release list and I have made some great selections since. ( i also got type 4 bodies and replaced the arms on my broken wrist girls!) Once again your website is the only concise reference for this limited J-Doll range of gems, and for this, I’m eternally grateful. 🙂
J-dolls are such an overlooked gem in the doll community, I’m glad this page was able to help you select the right dolls to fit in your collection. There was a bad run of broken wrists with the 2007 dolls especially Pullip and J-doll anything released 2009 or later should be on the type 4 body though. Hi, yes, all my first dolls had broken wrists. Even Old Church St 2008! I managed to get type 4 spare bodies on ebay and just swopped the arms, worked out a bit less than obitsu i think and i find the arms more delicate in look. All the girls are good except Old Arbat who needs new arms too, but she’s such an odd tan colour there’s no way I’ll be able to find replacements for her! After that I decided it it’s only type 4 from now on! But they are exquisite, really just what I wanted. Couldn’t find a bjd of that size that I really loved, then I stumbled on j-doll on Flickr. Can’t believe the group is so small really, given how popular the large head pullips are. Thanks
I’ve only had one J-doll with a broken wrist so far though I’ve lost count of how many Pullips with broken wrists I’ve come across over the years.
I think a big part of J-doll versus Pullip is Pullip was introduced first and she has the big head with an eye mechanism, J-doll came out later at the same price point but obviously has a smaller head and no eye mechanism. I think J-doll would have been initially a lot more popular if they had been priced a lower to start with. Pullip was the already established brand why pay as much for a J-doll that seemingly has less to offer. I think that’s a big part of the reason they ended up getting discontinued and are now available at clearance prices they were priced too high. I personally really liked the line but I have never paid MSRP for a J-doll.
Yes makes sense. I was never into Pullip but heavily into Blythe since 2007, with a toe in the bjd world. It’s interesting to see now that J-doll are being snapped up on the market places as they were so unnoticed and the prices to UK haven’t been bad, much much cheaper than Blythe, but I’m seeing many of the type 4 body J’s over £100 now and some dolls, infuriatingly aren’t available to the UK. I’d go the distance for an Ermou Street!!
totally agree! I desperately wanted Piccasso St West but wasn’t going to fork out 100.00! I have resolved myself to realize I probably accidentally broke both my girls wrists just trying to get out of wiring and plastic with no difficulty [and am still appalled as I have never broken a doll before under said circumstances] and am still looking for a new body. I have to admit most of my most desired of these girls are the older ones.
Hi Tracy, I purchased J-Doll Takeshita Street for my Granddaughter for Valentines Day today and somehow she snapped both wrists off getting her out of the box? I was not standing right there so I have no idea how. You sound as though you have bought many dolls and parts. Where could I buy replacement arms for her. Thank You so much, Kim
they really should sell replacement arms alone as that is an issue. I never broke a doll before in my life unwrapping it and still haven’t found another body to buy [which I think is excessive just for the arms] I love my girls tried to glue the flanges but now have to keep her posed with unmobile wrists and the flanges alone wouldn’t take and I had to reglue to just keep the hands on.
Aren’t there any new J-Dolls in 2014? Your list ends in 2013. And I can’t find any official company website for J-Dolls 😦
No, the last release was scheduled for August of 2013 and it was canceled. Groove, the company that makes Pullips, made J-dolls but since the line appears to have been discontinued they have removed most references to them on their webpage.I think since a lot of the dolls started showing up really cheap online like way cheaper than it costs to actually make the dolls it didn’t really make a whole lot of sense to continue make them. I like the dolls in theory but I always felt like the MSRP was too high for what you really get.

No worries, J-dolls are such overlooked beauties so I wanted to make a little bit of a resource for them. The closest I can think of off-hand is I know there are some boys by integrity toys, unfortunately I’m not so keen on boy dolls so I can’t give you much help.

I just got my first J-doll and I’m in love. She is my very first doll. I really loved the pullip dolls I saw but then I saw these and found them so attractive with the smaller heads. Is there another comparable doll out there in production?
Groove may or may not still be making Sasha dolls which are sort of similar to J-dolls as far as like style goes but they are anthropomorphic and have either a bunny or cat head. Luckily there are quite a few J-dolls released already and they are now easily found at affordable price.
