February’s Pullip Line Up

February’s diverse line up of pullip and company has been officially announced.

Jaldet is a gothic mermaid?The tail looks a tad ridiculous to me ^^; I have to say I never expected this release, I am amused with Groove’s creativity.

She is thankfully quite lovely once you get that tail far away from her. I love her intense eyebrows and how moody her face up is. She suits her stock really well (except the aforementioned tail) which is nice considering how much of a mismatch the previous month’s pullip Ludmilla is.

Ra Muw
Ra Muw is the final release from the Steampunk! set of dolls. Of all the dolls announced for 2011 so far, she is definitely the one I am looking forward to the most.

I absolutely love everything about Ra Muw. She looks straight out of a dystopian society. The colors on her all just work beautifully together. I just hope her steampunk gear holds up better than Eos’ did.

I wish I could be excited by Raiki, but it feels like I have seen him before. He looks way too much like previous releases to really grab my attention. His stock does look nice but the doll itself does not stand out against the other taeyangs.
Little Pullip/Dal
Siene
If Siene was a full-sized pullip, I would be over the moon with happiness even as a little pullip I am pretty excited about her. I adore her stock and the doll seems to suit it perfectly.
George
I am not quite sure what Groove Inc’s fascination is with having dal/little dal cross dress, I like George as a release but again with the transvestite dal release? I do love the impeccable little stock.

2003-2010 Autumn Pullip Complete Style Book & Limited Pullip Bonita

Groove is releasing a new book about pullip. There was previously one other book released by Jun Planning Lovely Pullip Magazine that came out way back in 2005; it featured patterns, an overview of all the dolls released up until that point, pictures of customs as well as customizing tips and tricks. The book was entirely in Japanese and the patterns were extremely hard to follow from what I understand :/ The new book 2003-2010 Autumn Pullip Complete Style Book is due out the end of the month. The new book is supposed to chronicle pullip  from 2003 through this fall’s releases, it will also feature all of the other dolls released in the line (Taeyang, Namu, Byul, Dal and all manner of minis) as well as AI dolls and J-doll. I think it will be a handy reference but it is worth noting that the new book is also in Japanese. It does not seem that there will be patterns or customization tutorials this time around but we shall see when the book gets here, I guess!

If you are anything like me, you probably noticed the gorgeous doll on the cover of said book. Her name is Bonita and she is a limited edition pullip that is being marketed with the new pullip book. She is limited to 1500 pieces. She is an absolute vision of loveliness, she reminds me slightly of Hello Kitty but I love Hello Kitty so I am not complaining.

She is on sale at Virusdoll for about $205 to the US, Plasticpop.de has her in Europe. Pullipstyle has her on sale as a set with the book and a matching bag for $174.95 and that’s where I ended up caving and preordering. The bag for those curious, it doesn’t exactly look stellar but it’s world’s better than the H.Naoto bags that came with the H.Naoto dolls in my opinion.

Pullip Lunatic Alice Series

The October pullip and company releases have been announced. Jun Planning/Groove has always been rather fond of Alice in Wonderland, I am a fan myself so I can’t say I blame them. Jun Planning started with the Fantastic Alice pullip release way back in 2004, swiftly followed by the little pullip Alice pink and blue. Back in 2007, a limited Golden/Another Alice set of dolls were released including Another Alice, Another King, Another Queen, Another Card Soldier and Another Clock Rabbit. Over the past year a host of new mini pullips/dals have also been released including a new version of mini Alice, Dormouse, Card Soldier, Queen of Hearts, Humpty Dumpty, March Hare, Cheshire Cat,Clock Rabbit and Mad Hatter. While I am ecstatic they are releasing even more Alice-themed dolls I am somewhat disappointed that Groove seems to be neglecting the opportunity to move beyond Alice herself and give us a Cheshire or Dormouse pullip.

Words can not adequately define my feelings towards her, she is the most excited I have been since an upcoming release since Kirakishou. She is perfectly quirky with her heart eyes counteracting her dark image. I love the juxtaposition of the soft and hard, she has a leather(like) top with a long skirt that is structured by crinoline.

I am actually kind of mad about him in a way, there were some seriously awesome pictures of a Mad Hatter taeyang floating around that I think I would have preferred. He is pretty awesome looking, I almost see him becoming my Laplace Demon rather than another member of my Alice crew.. His eye piece is kind of intriguing but Eos’ fell apart after a day, I don’t expect this one will be much better :/

The dal is actually the titular Alice this time around. I am actually kind of glad she is a dal rather than a pullip, Jp/Groove has already released two pullip Alices and I have five different interpretations of the character in pullip form.

I happen to think she is pretty cute, I love her color scheme. I love her eye patch and her outfit although after the Eos debacle (mine’s stock disintegrated over the course of a few days) I am cautiously wondering what the quality of the stock is going to be like.

The byul is Humpty Dumpty, who appeared in Through the Looking Glass.

If not for the egg on her face (err head) I probably honestly would not have guessed that this was supposed to be Humpty Dumpty. The stock is a bit odd, something about it just bothers me maybe because it makes her look kind of pudgy. I like that they made another slightly darker in theme byul that isn’t as freak-ish as Lilith but still a bit menacing.

Honestly I am probably getting the whole set, byul and all. Worse yet, I don’t think I am quite done with my Alice collection even after these releases… twin byuls would make excellent Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum (they are supposed to be groteque).. then there is Dormouse….I don’t yet have a proper March Hare….

August Pullip Releases Announced

It’s that time of the month that Groove likes to announce another batch of forthcoming dolls. I remember when we only knew the dolls that were coming out like two months ahead of time, these days we get a bit more of an advance notice not to mention much better promo photos these days…

Melissa’s face up is more reminiscent of the older style face ups like China China than like the newer softer face up style they have been using the past few years. I personally like the older face up style so I am not really complaining.

I love all the details they put into her, her police outfit looks really well made.

I think I am in love, I am really excited about her. Not only am I excited about a girl who reminds me of the older releases I love she comes with a completely badass police uniform. I am either going to need to buy two of her or find someone to split a second one with as I love the uniform that much. On a practical level, I do have Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn custom pullips with a second Harley Quinn in the works and a Joker planned I have the need for some sexy police officers.

Kanta is a real cutie pie, while I am not the biggest fan of her stock her face up is absolutely precious.

The taeyang is the second of the steampunk dolls to be released. I am kind of assuming that like the pullip he will be fairly expensive and probably limited as well.

Announced: Innocent World x Pullip Collaboration for July

The July releases were announced last week, pullip is collaborating with another Japanese Lolita clothing company. This time pullip is collaborating with Innocent World. The dolls are all available for preorder through their site but they do not appear to be exclusives as other stores have mentioned them already, the outfit set may be an exclusive though.

Tiphona reminds quite a bit Xiao Fan, Xiao Fan is a gorgeous doll so that isn’t necessarily a bad thing just maybe a bit boring ^^; Her stock appears to be flawless and very well put together, I love the design of the clothes  as well as colors/the fabric choices.  It’s so nice to see pullip in something other than super pink lolita (Angelic Pretty releases- so pink it’s scary!). The doll itself, seems a bit underwhelming she seems to be a missing a “spark” and seems kind of lifeless. Just a pretty doll no real personality.



Clair is the dal, she is somewhat unremarkable, she’s cute and all but that wig is problematic I can feel it already. I don’t like her stock as much as the pullip’s it looks a tad severe on dal.

In theory I like the byul Hermoine better than the dal, I would have loved to have seen their wigs and stocks switched. I really love her stock, she almost tempts me to go to the byul side..
outfit set
For the first time in years, an extra corresponding outfit is being released as well. Outfit sets used to be periodically released but some were not very popular, eventually ceased production of the outfit sets in 2006 (I think, it may have been 2005). The outfit set is 4,200 yen and consists of a white parasol as well as a gorgeous coat for pullip. It’s a nice idea but it seems kind of pricey to me.

A sad day for the pullip world- VOTD no longer carrying pullip..

I was literally on VOTD‘s website yesterday morning and all the pullips were still listed although there were a large number of dolls that were sold out. Someone posted that they had on the website and pullip and friends were conspicuously absent. After some discussion, I took the initiative and emailed the owner, asking if they no longer carried pullips and he confirmed that they would no longer be carrying pullip.
VOTD is no longer selling pullips !!!

I am greatly saddened that VOTD has discontinued carrying pullip, I have bought several dolls from them over the years and to just have them vanish as a source of pullips to me is rather shocking. VOTD was one of the two major pullip sources within the US. I honestly buy/bought most of my from Pullipstyle but I liked having a second option,that and Scot seemed to have better connections when it comes to getting rare dolls, I did buy my Jouet from VOTD after all.

VOTD will be missed as a purveyor of pullips, I am somewhat curious where this leaves the people who actively had dolls preordered through them I am sure VOTD will refund/or find a way to fulfill the preorders though.

There does not really seem to be a unifying theme for May, the pullip and taeyang look similiar to each other but the dal seems to be matched with Veritas/Tantus.

April Pullip Releases Announced

April’s pullip/dal/byul releases were posted up on Groove’s Blog during the night. There does not seem to be any particular theme for April as the dolls do not seem to be related to one another in any way. The good news none of the releases are collaborations for once so prices should be cheaper 10,650 yen as opposed to March 13,650 yen per release. No one has opened up preorders on these just yet.

Tina is supposed to be a dal counterpart to Mir, when Mir was originally announced there was some information posted on Tina as well on Pullip.net as well as a matching byul and taeyang. Still no word on if the byul and taeyang will ever see the light of day. Of the three releases that were announced today Tina is the only one I am super excited about, I am sure I will love the pullip when I see her in person but the announcement pictures are not making me very excited about her.

Siry was the one byul, I was actually kind of excited about when byul was first announced and they showed a few pictures of her together with Pollon and Eris. Unfortunately now that mild excitement has died upon seeing more pictures :( I do like her stock and think it would make a fantastic Christmas dress for one of my dal’s next year, that is literally the only nice/positive thing I can think of saying about this release.

Wasn’t it supposed to be Taeyang’s turn this month in the rotation anyway?

March Pullip Releases Officially Announced

March’s releases were officially announced this morning, it’s kind of anti-climatic as they were leaked earlier in the month by a European company that sells pullips. All three releases are collaborations, the pullip is based off of another character portrayed by Audrey Hepburn this time the title character of Sabrina, the dal is based off of the Disney classic Pinocchio and the byul is based off of the Disney classic Dumbo.

Sabrina is pretty but perhaps a bit too close to Princess Ann for my liking. I can not get over Jun Planning/Groove Inc’s fascination with Audrey Hepburn, her proportions are perfect for pullip but do we really need three pullips based off of her? She does actually come with two full outfits like Princess Ann did.

I am not very excited about Pinocchio, she has a lovely tan skin tone but I am not fan of her face up. I am not sure what dal’s fascination is with cross-dressing.

It’s a bad sign when the thing I am most excited about for the month’s release announcements is the byul’s stock. I loved the movie when I was a kid so of course I will need the Dumbo stock for one of my pullips/dals, I will not be going to the dark side and actually buying a byul though.

All in all, I am a bit disappointed with the March releases mainly because my birthday is in March and I was hoping for more exciting releases.

Doll Carnival Exclusive Chantilly

This year’s doll carnival exclusive has been revealed today. Her name is Chantilly and she is another collaboration with the lolita clothing company Angelic Pretty. She is presumably limited to 300 like the previous two doll carnival limiteds (Jouet and Isolde) before her and will more than likely be a pain to get a hold of.

While I do actually like her, I find it somewhat annoying that this year’s exclusive has blond hair again. So far every doll carnival exclusive has had blond hair >_< I am hoping her price does not go as insane as Jouet and Isolde's went but I am not exactly holding my breath.
